Hellions #13

Not exactly a bad offering from what has been a fairly entertaining title, but Hellions #13 definitely lacks the usual mojo that makes it distinctive from other books. Decent if you're already keeping up with the book, but not going to attract new readers with this one. Read Full Review

Hellions continues to be a perfect mixture of the classic character developing soap opera style of old and the more modern approach to the entire X-Line. Really solid and engaging artwork kicks off the start of a story arc that promises to bring some big changes for the series as a whole. One of the best books of the new X-Men era, hands down. Hellions #13 has an old-school feel and looks to be building an excellent story. The Hellions' past is coming back to haunt them, and if it's anything like previous issues, it'll be a great story. A really good set-up issue. Glad to see Nanny's mutant A.I. orphan back and I'm interested in seeing how this sub-plot will turn out (it's probably going to be a disaster for the Hellions, as always). And it looks like Sinister's scheming is finally blowing up in his face. So happy Hellions has made it this far and I hope to see it continue for a long time!

Mr. Sinister is nobody's friend, even to himself. Throughout the run, he's used his status and planning to stay above scrutiny and consequences. So when there can only be one Sinister, someone is going to pay and the Hellions might be more than willing to oblige. Which considering their development after not fitting in, they might earn the right to break off from sinister. But I can't help but feel a sense of tragedy because even if a Sinister does come out of this, I doubt Professor X or Magneto will keep him locked up with Sabretooth. They're more than likely going to keep him out of sight. In short no consequences, just a minor inconvenience on Sinister's part.

Sinister's chickens come home to roost, and it's not going to be pretty for the Hellions. Plus, the opening scenes promise more fallout coming right behind the Amenth mess introduced by Sinister's clone. It's a dark, rich story and I'm eager to see how it plays out. The pace is a bit wonky in this issue, though, and I'm not loving the new artist. This issue calls for a lot of Meaningful Looks and I think they could have been drawn meaningful-er.
