Now again, this issue of HELLIONS was certainly a bit harder to digest at first. Still, I think youll find that Wells and Segovia manage to stick the landing leaving readers curious for whats to come. Hellions #11 redeems what felt to be shaping up to be a mediocre, at best, story. Wells expertly cleverly subverts reader expectation- of course, Sinister and Mastermind, mutants known for their subterfuge, had something shady planned. Its a great twist, and it pulls this issue into the stars. Segovias art is the icing on the cake. Hellions #11 does a lot of heavy lifting for the books future, and its looking to be a great one. Excellent!!! Zeb Wells gives us an interesting (and unexpected) little twist at the end of this story arc. While Sinister might have taken a couple of "hits" from Arcade and company, in the end Sinister proves that he is the master chess player. BTW...Zeb Wells is giving us the "BAD-ASS, TAKE-NO-PRISONER, F-YOU" Psylocke that she is meant to be AND injecting her with depth and characterization. Thank Editorial that Kwannon is back in her own body. Our little Psychic Ninja isn't just a pin-up anymore. As always S. Segovia and crew knocked it out of the ballpark with the art, colors, and lettering. The opening pages (with 50 years of piled up pseudo-Psylocke corpses) looked like the dystopian hell from "Mad Max." And for whatever reason, I friggin' loved the scene of Psylocke using her thumb to begin to unsheathe her blade as a shadowy figure approaches...I heard the "click" and could sense both the overall tension and her resolve. This issue definitely takes some unexpected twists and turns. A good conclusion to another good Hellions arc; even if it did feel a little rushed. Mr. Sinister is pushing Psylocke to the edge and it'll be exciting to see how/when she'll finally push back.

The tension from the Sinister and Psylocke dynamic is like a game of comic book "Jenga." Every new issue is like watching another block being pulled out. Someone is gonna make the tower fall.

So the start of this was what, just to shit on the latest main X-title ? Meh, it worked. Just another issue where the best X-team on the shelves is being led around by their noses and Psylocke just delves deeper into her deal with her devil in Sinister. Sinister trying to talk with the loss of his teeth was pure comedy and I felt no pity for Mastermind or Arcade (who's really been making his rounds around he 616 recently). Solid issue, although it does feel a bit uneven. The strengths of this issue are definitely the dialogue and the relationships that have been built up in the series. The art is good and very good at facial expressions that adds to the comedic timing of the book. I feel like there were some missed opportunities with utilizing more of Arcade's Murderworld gimmick even though they established the expanded room for grander designs and exploration. A minor critique but I felt like the pay off needed a little bit more of a kick to it to elevate it. I think the overall feeling I got was wanting more and then it just wrapped everything up and we're on our way to The Hellfire Gala. Here's hoping that's awesome. I recommend picking it up for a consis tently dark and funny good time. more

Arcade goes back to being an easily-foiled chump, and Sinister's master plan (or part of it) stands revealed. Psylocke is super frustrated about getting played again, and I'm getting a little frustrated myself. I love Sinister as a smug charmer and a devious schemer, but it turns out I don't like to see him win. I responded better to #6, which was also a Sinister win, so, what's different here? This one seems less funny. And the psychodrama of the psychic Murderworld didn't impress me nearly as much as the weird team of Arakki mutants in #6.
