Downtrodden superheroes with a sci-fi western flavoring is the perfect space for the ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy' to call home, even if the heroes are near their breaking point. Guardians of the Galaxy #2has a lot more to do and say than the first issue, making it a potentially stronger hook for those teetering after a good, albeit thin, first issue. Guardians of the Galaxy #2 brings a new chapter in this space western style tale. Star Lord has the team try to play peacemakers but it blows up in their faces and action ensues. Unfortunately, the action is pretty short-lived and since there are no real stakes, it's more of a waiting game while getting through all of the exposition from these new alien races introduced in this run. Ultimately, the comic is used to build up the danger of the impending “Grootfall” and hopefully the next issues follow through on it. Read Full Review

This is hard to align with past volumes of the Guardians (especially Al Ewing's last effort) and with current Marvel space-continuity. In the way it treats its characters and its setting, it owes big debts--maybe too big--to the MCU and especially to Firefly. Those are all valid reasons to dislike it. But it's *so damn fun* if you set those thoughts aside and play along! It looks good, it sounds *great*, and the pace is thrilling. I have another critical angle to consider, though. The female Guardians are all tremendously entertaining. They shoulder most of the comic relief duty. They're not passive. But they are random and manic and borderline irrational. The male characters are all deeper and more reserved and tragic. And I see similar gender divisions in Kelly & Lanzing's Sentinel of Liberty; this pattern could eventually put me off their writing. more

This issue isnt about crazy action and jokes, like first one was. It´s about hearth and soul of Guardians of the Galaxy. Where nobody wants to fight and help GoG will. I´m really missed western feeling.

This issue was fun, and the moment with Drax at the end really brought this up for me, but it did feel a little like spinning the wheels to keep setting up Grootfall.

This was another entertaining issue for the run. I liked that Nebula always counted on Peter's plan failing in order for her 100% guaranteed plan to work. While this was fun, I really hope we finally learn more about Grootfall soon. It was a big part of the teasers and, so far, we haven't really been told much about it other than that fact that it's destroying worlds. Nonetheless, a good second issue here.

Reads like the movie versions of the Guardians were swapped into Firefly. It might be a decent story on its own merits, but I'm not interested in Firefly starring the MCU Guardians cast.

This was a very disappointing read... The last run of GotG was really good. Two issues into this one and it feels like the writer doesn't care about what came before, just what slightly mimics the characters from the movies. Star lords development from the previous run, like it never happened. There was even a line about how in the old days they would've just come to steal the mysterium... now I've read all GotG comics and when exactly were they a bunch of thieves? Maybe that line could be justified for the MCU GotG, given that Peter was raised a space pirate there, but the team was organized as basically an expendible group against the Phalanx. They were pulled from a Kree prison but the fascist kree will arrest basically anyone. From t here, when they formally became a team, it was Star Lord actually wanting to save the universe. Individually they have some sketchy pasts but as a team it was always pretty much Avengers of space. Disrespect to continuity aside, the plot is... alright. I'm vaguely interested in what happened to Groot but I generally think stories of heroes going bad are not good stories so there better be a fantastic explanation. Maybe there will be but these type of stories more often than not don't end well. more
