Guardians of the Galaxy #12 lives up to the full potential of the epic confrontation it portrays. It's an all-out mental and visual assault. But though the volume is cranked to maximum, there's no risk of overload or feedback here; the talented creative team is in full control at all times. As both a concluding and introductory chapter, this single issue is an outstanding accomplishment and one that frames the most creatively accomplished era for the Guardians since they first appeared on the big screen; it seems the best is yet to come and that's quite a statement considering the past 12 issues are some of the best Guardians of the Galaxy comics ever published. This wall to wall action issue manages to still pack the emotional much the series has built its reputation on. The Guardians defeat the Olympians in a goofy, gloriously-illustrated brain-twister of a fight. Along the way, Moondragon and Phyla-Vell reconcile and the readers are treated to a li'l Infinity Stone secret. It all wraps up with an optimistic new status quo and snazzy new jackets. It's psychedelic and ambiguous and ambitious as hell, and I love it. "Pynchonesque" is not an adjective I throw around lightly in describing comic books, but this one is it.

Well done with this group and this issue felt really nice to read. There are too many characters and it's about to get crazier. I hope some don't get lost. Cabal's art is fantastic as always and he will be missed.

This is a fantastic issue, and a good wrap up to this phase of Ewing's Guardians. A lot has been done to morph Marvel Cosmic towards this new direction, through this title, Empyre and SWORD, so I hope it pays off. I'm excited to see what is done with the new status quo, and given that it isn't being ignored outside of these books, how the rest of the Marvel Universe reacts.

Abstract art meets 80's metal, psychedellic colors and does the monster mash with mythologies ranging from the Greek to the undying esoteric. But surely star lord becoming the master of the sun, the two moon dragons becoming one, Hercules joining the team as well as marvel boy, and the guardians now being policed and not a free lance team has changed a lot? I don't see how we're back to square one. Also I'm not trying to be like rude or anything I'm just genuinely curious

I think you unfairly underrate comics you don't like. I mean, for example, 1.0 to Zdarky's Daredevil? That's just insulting, not a honest rate. Square one? I do not understand your point. Maybe you wish some charachters have died or something, but, square one? Don't make me laugh.

I don't like anything he's done with Star-Lord. He's neither the soldier-ish version from the comics, nor the funny dude from the movie. He's a zen hobo who constantly looks unaware of his surroundings, kinda like Biden. Couldn't care less about the moondragons becoming one. And the Guardians now being police came completely of nowhere, he spent literally two pages on "building" that. More or less, they're in the same place they were in at the beginnig, nothing of essence has changed.

You don't need to kill characters to make them grow or change the position of the characters in their microverse. Hickman didn't kill anyone in HoX-PoX and he managed to completely reshape the mutants and their position in the Marvel universe. Ewing also didn't kill Hulk, he kinda destroyed the concept of killing Hulk if anything but he still managed to create a very interesting premise and a good run. This is clearly not that. This is just him self-indulging in the worst aspects of his writing.

His star-lord is very crap. moondragon becoming one with a kiss was a choice, like really? just a kiss so they become one, esier and nonsense way to solve a duplicate. I agree that this run is self-indulging on his Ewigsms, no wonder sales for this are bad. he is writing just for the die hards

Yeah, they argued his whole run, there was absolutely no consensus and understanding between the two and then in a second they just waved all that away and they were all okey-dokey. Ewing is a good writer when he has some sort of editorial control over him, I liked his Immortal Hulk and his Loki but then left to his own devices he can be pretty terrible. I remember his pitch for what he wanted to do next with Loki and suffice to say, Marvel pulled the plug on it and with good reason.

He had a lot of space books and team books and he's not very good at neither, I feel like he's better on solo books. Though his start on SWORD so far has been pretty good.

Okay, well, we can talk about how most of the cast morphs from issue one to issue twelve, plus the numerous things that had to be set up to allow for the new status quo. These last twelve issues have achieved a ton, and this is in no way "square one".

For Gamora, Groot and Rocket nothing changed. Moondragon and Phyla argued the whole book and then reconciled in one page all of a sudden, coming back to the initial stage of their relationship. Hercules is even more weak. The Prince was so cringey it hurt. The only character that Ewing treated well was Nova, that's the only thing I liked. And Cabal's art. A lot of minuses and very, very few good things.

Yeah, she "doesn't love all of her" but she wants to "know it all", so they're still together, same as before #1. I'm getting really tired of this back and forth so long story short: I think this was terrible and I stick by it, you think this is good. It's just that I'm tired of all these comments and it's not like you're eager to move away from you what you think of the book and neither will I.
