Things are calm and normal, and definitely will be for a long while. Things are NOT about to explode in everyone's faces, and this is NOT the last chance at normalcy that the FF will have for a very, very long time! May 09, 2024Fantastic Four #20 brings a new little story featuring Ben Grimm, The Thing, and Johnny Storm the Human Torch getting jobs. It's a lot more fun than it sounds. While nothing big or grand happens in the story, it's very much a grounded and fun misadventure for these heroes. It really banks on their brotherly rivalry to bring all kinds of fun hijinks and shenanigans that the two get into. While not being a big story may seem like a downside, it's not for this is genuinely a fun comic story with a beginning, middle, and end that shows more of two of Marvel Comics' best superheroes. Love this one, funny, sweet and a good way to show the dynamic I thought was missing in the new movie between the Thing and Johnny. Working as cashier's because the money of the FF has been frozen in NY and the whole family has to live out in Arizona (Aunt Petunias) house Ben and Johnny both work at Foodtopia. I liked this a lot because they were competing with each other and being like petty children. What brought them back to their senses was some tabloid punk journalist ragging on Johnny and saying how he has fallen from fame to minimum wage. This pissed off Ben and made him go off on a great rant defending Johnny and making the tabloid journalist look like a total ass. This shows that North doesn't need a high-concept science plot to make this run work. He understands the characters, and that's the heart of the book. This issue was a lot of fun, though inconsequential. Which is a reason why I like it! Sometimes I need a break from universe ending threats and need to be treated to the mundane. Also, Gomez's art is growing on me.

Very enjoyable FF book that fills me with joy like the OL' FF books did. Ryan North knows these guys and keeps it simple yet hits the mark when it needs to. Plus all those small tidbits like the tabloid page were ridiculously hilarious. Gomez is great as usual and I like the consistent artist on a book. Gomez and Aburtoz work well together.

It's fine, Gómez's art is solid like akways and North continues to provide the Four with good characterization, but I would have liked to have seen a little more tension or problem solving going on between Ben and Johnny.

This issue was fun but functionally meaningless. Just for a good laugh and slight character development. Nothing wrong with that but it really is a filler story at best. Did I laugh? Yeah I kind of chuckled. One of the best stories out of Marvel right now (which is saying almost nothing as besides the Ultimate Universe and Twilight A, its all trash).

This was a fun issue but started to drag a little but in the end had great results with some genuine feels. I've been loving this series but this issue started to show that it may be time to get back to NY for super hero antics as the current concept may start to wear out its welcome.

It's been several issues now of the fantastic four not kicking ass. I feel like they just stuck this here to not start a new plot before next issues bloodhunt interruption. I've stuck with this series since North took over but these last few issues are losing my interest. I do really like the Gomez art, and the writing isn't terrible, I just don't care to see Ben Grimm as a barista
