Word Of The Nerd - Brent Jackson
Aug 15, 2019Fantastic Four #13 feels like a classic comic book in many ways. You could really just pick up this issue and enjoy without having read the past twelve issues. Slott lays everything out and all you really need to know is on the pages. So, this is a pretty good place to jump on as it finishes up a two-issue story and it is just a ton of fun. The art catches the battle between the Hulk and the Thing delightfully well and if you like superhero comics I can't really see you not closing this book without a smile on your face! Aug 23, 2019In these thirteen issues so far, Dan Slott has reunited The Fantastic Four, brought them home, given them a new place to live, married Alicia and The Thing, restored the villainy of Dr. Doom, and now given us another memorable round of comics greatest grudge match. Its time to open this book up to some new territory, some new things to explore, and some new things to discover, in the best Fantastic Four tradition. And it looks as if in the issues ahead, we may see just that. Onward to FF #14 and whatever may await us, and our heroes, there. Read Full Review

Aug 19, 2019At best I can say that this issue was fair. It didn't give me anything that I was hoping for, but it didn't necessarily fail at anything it was actually trying to do. My best description is that this issue is like a plain slice of white bread. It'll give you sustenance, but it's not terribly exciting. Read Full Review

This felt so much like FF. I really dug this one, and Immortal Hulk was luckily written well, especially in the epilogue. The Thing/Hulk rivalry is a good one that's been around forever, and this is a nice addition to it, genuinely.

Ben soldiers his way through a monumental Hulk fight that puts some nice new spin on a classic formula. I liked the fairly active role allotted to Alicia (also cool to have it confirmed that she pulled a shady during the Wedding Special). The countdown clock was awfully gimmicky, though, and I can't set aside the feeling that crafting a good Thing comic is not the same as crafting a good FF comic.

This was okay. I enjoyed the epilogue.

the problem with so many stories is that the set-ups are so much better than the pay-offs, and this is one of those. Last issue was really powerful, and left our "heroes" in a dire situation. This one provided too simple resolutions, a totally unrealistic ending to the fight, and a "reverberation" back to the Puppet Master that doesn't even make any sense. Plus, the fight scenes weren't particularly compelling, either.
