Nov 19, 2015At the end of the day, EXTRAORDINARY X-MEN #2 is arguably the best X-Men comics I've read in a long time. It contains so much of what readers love about mutant franchise and has so many original ideas, from the character constellations, the little details, to the way the scenes are arranged, everything feels extremely in place. Nov 18, 2015EXTRAORDINARY X-MEN #2 wasn't as strong as the first issue, but it was still a great read. Lemire is setting up quite a bit in this second issue, from Jean Grey outing herself as a mutant while trying to find love, Colossus and Magik fighting Sinister, and Logan talking to the new X-Men leader Storm, but it's all interesting set-up, although it does get a bit chaotic at times. We get some more its hard to pull a team together antics, some more X-drama and gravitas that define our merry mutants. Lemire is trying to throw in a ton of different plot threads, and Ramos' artwork struggles to keep it all together. I thought All-New Hawkeye and Astonishing Ant-Man were tragic in the sense that the stories revolved around the protagonists being screw-ups where life constantly seemed to crap all over them, but this title is going above and beyond the call of duty with this. Jeff Lemire will eventually give them to us, we just have to be patient. The art has been very good so far and can hopefully continue to be consistent. The plodding pace and unnecessary focus on rebuilding the team don't help. Comic Book Resources - Matt Little
Nov 20, 2015It's a shame that, once again, the X-Men are punching bags for the Marvel Universe. Though nefarious power struggles were always inherent in the series since Claremont's run, there were still moments of hope to pull the reader through. Right now, the franchise feels like it's bullying mutants. It's always darkest before the dawn and it's possible that hope is around the corner, but right now there isn't much to "Extraordinary X-Men" that isn't depressing. Lemire and Ramos are fantastic talents who are doing their best with what they're given, but I'm looking forward to their work in a setting that gives their characters a bit more of a chance. This issue was great, the best x-men book in a while! A combination of action, mystery and character moments add up to a great 2nd issue. Looking forward to next issue!

The search for Nightcrawler and an X-Men team continues. I really do like this issue. If you didn't read the last issue knowing where X-Haven is located is a complete shocker. Plus I enjoy the sibling banter of Magik and Colossus, reminds me of my family. If you are a hardcore X-Men fan you're going to enjoy the story. Especially the first villain they come across. The Art on Ramos is on point but in this issue you are starting to see a bit of the cracks on the details, such as huge jawlines. I really can't wait for issue three.

I enjoyed this issue more than the last one, the character arcs are getting interesting and the limbo business with the school is something new. What's M-Pox, which previous X-book introduced that? Also, extra points for crapping all over the romance that Bendis crammed in between Jean and Beast, no one wanted that to be a thing, no sir.

The characterisation and art are as strong as in the first issue, with Lemire having a great handle on the interpersonal relationships as well as the voices of each of his cast, and Ramos continuing to do a great job with body language and expressions. However, the pace feels decompressed; the first two issues feel like they could have been compressed into one super-sized issue without any significant loss. Moreover, on re-reading the issue, I just realised that Ramos' cartoony art style might not be the most apt since Lemire's tone is much bleaker than I initially thought.
