Excalibur #8

Tini Howard writes a fun version of Excalibur. Serious moments are broken up with witty and realistic dialogue that makes me laugh. The characters are all spot-on. She even goes as far as to having multiple characters from the LGBTQ community in one issue. Honestly, this is some solid writing, and reminds me of everything that is weird and fun about the X-Men. This issue seems to wrap up the hunting part of the story arc, but I get the feeling there's more to come and look forwards to finding out whether or not Cullen Bloodstone will seek revenge on Betsy and her team. Especially given that he was in contact with eth Akkabba Coven. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Read Full Review

There's no getting around to the idea that this arc is not my favorite of this series. But to be fair, it's only the second arc of the book and the first set the bar very high. It definitely feels more like a diversion before the book jumps into something bigger. Read Full Review

While I’m not a fan of Howard’s writing of Cullen Bloodstone, Excalibur has found a nice little groove. The plot is far less complicated than previous issues but that also makes this comic so much easier to read monthly. The art is excellent. I wish Rogue and Gambit did more. Apocalypse is still the best part of this comic

Prelude: Recently, Excalibur has been great. Let's see how Howard goes with this issue. The Good: It's always great seeing how everyone is reacting to Krakoa. The infographics were good. Good art from Santos. Some nice threads for X-Factor. The Bad: Not the happiest with Cullen's writing. Conclusion: While Cullen was a bit off, it was still a great issue of Excalibur.

I have some problem with how Cullen Bloodstone was written, especially in that scene between him and Rictor, but otherwise I had a good time reading this.

Good resolution to the Warwolf hunt. I think overall this Excalibur series is getting better than it's reputation would suggest.

This was a bit of a step-down from the previous issue, in my opinion, but I still liked this a fair amount. I just wasn't as interested or engaged with this as I was with Issue 7. That said, I still liked and enjoyed this as a whole. I'm interested to see if the puppy warwolf will show up again at some point.

It's a small slice above average, I think. But not nearly far enough above to make me forget or forgive those pretentious Krakoan horoscopes. The way the climactic confrontation from the last issue fizzles and the plot circles to set up the hunt again suggests to me that Tini Howard came up 10 pages short on her first draft of this arc.
