Doctor Strange 12-17 is one of the best Doctor Strange stories I have ever read. It’s an absolute classic. Imaginative, suspenseful, surprising, character driven. The concept is fantastic: What happens when Galactus gets imprisobed in the magical dimension and becomes addicted to demonic energies? Well, the whole reality unravels and you get an epic Doctor Strange vs. Galactus match with guest stars Clea, Umar, Mephisto, Eternity, The Living Tribunal, Black Bolt, The Imperial Guard and almost all of Marvel heavy hitter mystical heroes, and some of the classic Defenders like Hulk, Valkyrie, Gargoyle and Hellstorm. This should have been the history leading up to 400.

Mark Waid is trying to challenge Doctor Strange and it mostly works for this issue but I'll have to see how they progress. Barry Kitson and Scott Koblish deliver some nice art throughout and make it look great!

Stephen says, "I'm sick of doing the same three Dr. Strange stories over and over." The universe hears him and replies, "OK, Mr. Sorcerer Smug-preme, let's see how you do with premise #3 from the Galactus playbook." I like the last act because it actually stirs the Galactus chocolate into the Dr. Strange peanut butter with delicious results, but the first two-thirds are rather blah. I can't tell whether the start is too meta or not meta enough. Could it somehow be both?
