Captain Marvel #42

I am not a huge fan of the A.X.E event, having read a couple of issues from the main arc (don't get me started about the resurrection of Steve Rogers) and a number of tie-in books. This issue is on par with the Amazing Spider-Man issue, though without the pathos that goes hand-in-hand with Peter Parker. Instead, Thompson manages to keep Carol on her toes through the continued us of her supporting cast, be they sister, friend or even cat / Flerkin. Read Full Review

Thompson continues to show why shes become one of the most prolific, and popular female writers currently doing work for the big two. Using her patented humor, she continues to write one of the most fun takes on Captain Marvel since the Peter David run featuring Genis and Rick Jones. Two thumbs way up. Read Full Review

Di Vito delivers some beautifully detailed art that does a wonderful job of showcasing the characters in the story and I loved everything that Chewie does in the story visually.  Read Full Review

The Armageddon Game is becoming a game changing event for the franchise and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #133 captures that fact on at a street-level. By focusing on Donatello, Jenika, and Venus both Sophie Campbell and Fero Pe were able to get across how overwhelming the things the Turtles and their allies are dealing with during The Armageddon Game. Kelly Thompson spins absolute gold out of the straw of a one-off event tie-in. (Admittedly, it helps that Judgment Day is a REALLY GOOD event.) The script is boosted into the stratosphere by some superb art. That is a hell of a good-looking cat, but the people and settings are terrific, too. A dash of genuinely significant character growth for Lauri-Ell is the cherry on top.

The problem with this issue for me is the AXE attachment. I do not like AXE, so there was a huge chance I wasn't going to like this issue. I probably shouldn't have gotten it, but I didn't want to break my run. It was really all about the cat from the movie. Hopefully, it will be a new arc in the next issue.
