Pimentel and Bellaire do amazing work with the art in the issue. The classic art style is perfect for both the style of story and era of the character being shown. Even the colors are a stylistically perfect for this story. Read Full Review

All of this worked to build the hype up for the next three chapters of "Die By The Blade" as we see how things go between Black Widow and Living Blade in the present. Along with their rematch we have a lot of questions around the mission Natasha and her crew are on. Add the incredible artwork by Rafael Pimentel and Jordie Bellaire to the character work done for Natasha in this flashback story Black Widow #13 is a can't miss comic book. Read Full Review

Fear is the real enemy, and Black Widow is definitely afraid of the Living Blade. This issue is action-packed with Natasha forced on the defensive against a formidable assassin who won't let her catch a breath. Kelly Thompson's superb writing mixed with outstanding art from Rafael T. Pimentel and Jordie Bellaire easily makes for one of the best Black Widow comics I've ever read. Read Full Review

You Don't Read Comics - Russ Bickerstaff

It can be really, really difficult to make any mega-villain seem like a towering threat in advance of a multi-part series. The Marvel Universe is cluttered with vicious killing machines. They all seem more or less alike. Thompson gives The Living Blade just enough personality by issues end. Theres honor in The Living Blade that lends a nicely conspicuous kind of dramatic gravity to a storyline that should be a lot of fun in the course of the first half of 2022.  Read Full Review

Black Widow #13 is a good fight comic that shows us why The Living Blade is formidable. It also shows both as heroic in their own ways even though we have yet to find out why he wants Black Widow dead. The bottom line is this is a clever way to shed light on a key character in the story arc. Read Full Review

Even after their encounter comes to an end, Widow isn't sure what she did to get on the legend's radar but she is sure that she hasn't seen the last of him. Recreating the character's older costume and look, along with a retro feel to the art, Black Widow #13 is a fun single issue that still serves a larger arc. Whatever the Living Blade wanted from Natasha all those years ago, he's back. Can she survive him a second time? Read Full Review

Wow this is a masterpiece! This whole volume has been brilliant and this might be the best issue. The writing is fantastic the story is fantastic the artwork is fantastic. It's so cool that instead of just quickly telling us the backstory of this new character they take the time to show us and make it look vintage. Phenomenal book!

This series has been among Marvel's best for some time now. This issue doesn't change that. It provides one of the best fight sequences you will find on a shelf from the last year or so. Black Widow vs a lone assassin, the Living Blade. Pulse pounding espionage and sword fighting against the backdrop of a neon city. From the top of buildings down to the back rooms of a nightclub. Its truly a sight to behold anda killer fried from start to finish. Widow as always is one of the most formidable fighters you will find at Marvel, her resolve and resourcefulness are unmatched here. We hear her strategies and we see her techniques and her priorities. The last of which may ultimately preserve her life. For a fill on flashback issue compl more

Sometimes when talented creators really narrow down their focus, magic happens. This is one great fight conveyed in great detail. The art shift is perfect. This issue has a style of its own, but the dynamic action panels are strongly reminiscent of Elena Casagrande. And the art handles its own storytelling well while the prose is almost entirely devoted to Natasha's train of thought. That train of thought is great, too. The words are elegant in their brevity, saying exactly what needs to be said and no more. This issue leaves a lot of logical questions about the Living Blade unanswered. This was surely intentional. The creators focused on explaining why the fearless Black Widow fears him, and they absolutely nailed it.

This is a very quick action issue, and for what that is, it's pretty good.
