Amazing Spider-Man #34 was nothing more than an advertising piece for the 2099 comic books Marvel is publishing. Nick Spencer did not sell fans on why they should stick around to read this story arc. Much better than the first 2099 related outings. I'm still skipping the mini-event because it's not grabbing my attention at all mainly because we've seen this before and it's stretched too much. I get that Spencer is laying the ground work for some stuff later on but his structure did not work well in the last issue. There is enough here to keep me interested but my enjoyment comes from Gleason's art that brings the narrative to life.

The story is fine, I'm not too sure if I'm too keen on reading a story about Doom being Mr. Super Evil Guy again, but we'll see. Gleason's artwork is stunning as always.

Pete picks up the Clairvoyant, stumbles into the middle of Doom's assassination, and finally links up with Miguel to catch a heap of 2099 crisis exposition from him. I think the fast pace is suited to the simplicity of the plot points, so it rolls out nice and smooth if you don't think about anything too hard. I found the art solid, but not the GOAT performance some readers assume the instant they see Mr. Gleason's name. It meets (high) expectations for top-shelf art but doesn't distinguish itself further in my eyes.

This was better than the last issue, but I'm still not really into it. However, I have a feeling that it's going to get better. We'll see.

Jittery pacing but an improvement on the previous issue. Will never cease to be spellbound by Pat Gleason's art.
