easily the best issue of the week hands down. Great writing, and as a Spider-man this makes me happy

Outstanding mix of stories from "Amazing" to OK. The one that stuck with me and is worth the price is Slott's which made me misty eyed especially with the way Cheung channeled Ditko in his art. Rainbow Rowell/Olivier Coipel and Hickman/Marco Checcheto were great too. These anthologies are almost always money grabs but this one had the goods.

Just Some Guy - A beautiful and fun story with an artwork reminiscent of Smallwood’s work, it’s great. 9/10
Sinister 60th - Cho brought his A game and Slott wrote a great story about our elderly hero. 10/10
Spider-Man vs Conspiriton - Fun story about conspiracy theories. 8/10
The Kid’s Got a Good Eye - Short and sweet, it’s always a treat to see Oliver Coipel’s art, especially with Spidey 9/10
In The Flesh - Not much to say about this one, it’s good. 7.5/10
Slaves of The Witch-Queen - Nice catch by Busiek. 7/10
You Get It - Hickman can be funny too 9/10

It's not perfect, but a lot of the stories are great. Some are even amazing.

I really dug this despite the silly 1000 numbering gimmick. So many top notch creators on board for this giving their unique spin on what makes Spider-Man special to all of us. If you dig anthology books, there’s a lot of good stuff here. Much stronger than the very blah ASM 900 as far as anniversary celebrations go. Also, no ads was a bonus!

Let's celebrate Spidey's 60th birthday and read this sudden AF #1000... Why is it 1000 in the first place? I honestly don't understand the logic. But who cares... So, about stories:
1st story - Falcone/Cho - 8.5. It's really short, but nice. It has a message and the art is cool. Might be better, but it's an awesome opening for such a book.
2nd story - Slott/Cheung - 10. Totally deserved 10. That's a brilliant story with a brilliant art. It's just something you wait from the comic like this. And it's not a typical story, it has a few unexpected moves. I'm really impressed.
3rd story - Lannucci/Stegman - 6. That was a rather boring story especially after the tone was set by the previous two... The art isn't that good as well. Not bad
, of course, but still... Plus this new villain is mediocre.
4th story - Rowell/Coipel - 7.5. Very short story and it's not like it's an outstanding thing. Just a cute story. However, even if I like Coipel, his art here was not that good... He can draw better.
5th story - Anderson/Camuncoli - 5.5. The art is weird and the story is messed up as hell. There's almost no sense at all. Yeah, it's cool when Spidey saves somebody - it's just could be made much better.
6th story - Busiek/Dodsons - 6.5. That was a meh story. I love Dodsons, but they are much worse here, than in Marvel Knights... Busiek wrote a weird story, however it was a direct sequel to one of the stories of the Amazing Fantasy 15 and oh god thanks that I read it, because if not - I would get almost no satisfaction from this story. So, 6.5 is fine here, I think. This weird glider-woman is a dumb idea, but I love the connection and seeing story being completed after 60 years - is a great feeling.
7th story - Hickman/Checchetto - 8. Pretty solid story with a nice art. The message is cool, but I personally think it could be better.
8th story - Gaiman/McNiven - 9. It's more like a facetious Gaiman's autobiographic story and it's just awesome. I really wish ALL stories here were more like this one - not some random crap, but something that gives us a real feeling of long Spidey's history and his importance for the people. However, McNiven's art really reminds me of Kaare Andrew's art here. I wish he had better inker and colorist in this story...
9th story - Pasciullo/Nauck - 7. Yeah, it's more like a memorial for Pasciullo, but I think this story is weird. This new character is questionable and the message isn't that "new" as well. However it's not bad and the last page is a perfect conclusion for this issue.
So, overall, this is a good book. Not all stories are great, some of them are boring or just odd here. They feel really unnecessary and kinda ruin the book. But on the other hand we have some masterpieces, which is just so rare in the modern comics.
My rating for the book (considering an average of 9 rates) is 7.5. But I want to make it a bit higher just because some stories here really deserve that. But yeah, the pacing is arguable because of the worst ones and the tone changes too often here...
If you are a real Spidey fan - this is a must-read for you today. more

There were at least 2 great stories. Most were pretty good. I think there was one, I didn't care for too much. Overall, a good Spider-Man read.

Anthologies are always a bit rough, so when a publisher manages to put together a mostly cohesive, quality one, it's nice. I'll quickly run through the stories:
"Just Some Guy" is a fun, cute little story that I think captures some of why Spider-Man is who he is.
"Sinister 60th" is actually my favorite story here. Call me a softy, but when all those people lined up to see Spider-Man on his deathbed, that made me a little emotional.
"Spider-Man Vs. Conspirition" is probably my least favorite story here. It just doesn't really feel like it matters or says anything about Spider-Man as a character.
"The Kid's Got a Good Eye" is a quiet story that is nicely subtle. I enjoyed it.
"In The Flesh" is a wacky horror story that actually
has a lot to say about Peter and how he deals with guilt and trauma. I wouldn't call it subtle, but it did take a second to click for me, which is unusual. And you get some wicked images too. I really enjoyed this one.
"Slaves of the Witch-Queen" is really weird. There's a big, flashing question of "Why?" but it's by Busiek, so it's at least well-written. It's not something I would've put in this anthology, but it's not bad.
"You Get It" is weirdly mean-spirited. I don't really like the message here, even if it isn't entirely wrong. The way it's presented is off to me.
"With Great Power..." is Neil Gaiman's secret Spider-Fan origin, and it's well written. It's sweet. A little self-centered, I guess.
"Along Came a Rhino..." isn't meant to be part of this anthology, and is taken from the middle of a story we probably won't ever see in full, but it does have a nice message about Spider-Man and his heroism. I liked it. more

Gaiman is in full "saccharine but heartwarming" mode as only he can do it, and Hickman proves he can do a solid, funny self-parody. Those were the standouts for me.
It's much better than the average anthology, but there are still some clunkers in there. Marvel really pried open its wallet for the art budget, though; this is (almost entirely) gorgeous.

"Just Some Guy" - 8.5
"Sinister 60" - 8.5
"Spider-Man vs. Conspiratron" - 6
"The Kid's Got a Good Eye" - 4.5
"In the Flesh" - 6
"Slaves of the Witch-Queen" - 6
"You Get It" - 9.5
"With Great Power" - 8
A lot of really great art on display here, but some real rough writing. Some of these stories just didn't go anywhere or have any meaning behind them. Or maybe they did and I just missed it, which is entirely possible, but I particularly disliked Iannucci's story, Rowell's story, and Anderson's story. Just found them boring and pointless. Favourite was easily Hickman's, and Falcone's and Slott's were enjoyable as well. Perhaps worth a read if you're a big Spidey fan, but in my opinion the character deserved better from this antholog
