The Hyde Street end of the Ghost Machine continues to show a great deal of promise. Its very, very difficult to build a whole horror universe that is exclusively horror but Ghost Machine has done a pretty good job as it continues to explore Hyde Street. The whole thing really feels like it could become a major property that could edge its way into a whole bunch of different platforms if all goes well. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. The bonds of sisterhood via blood or circumstance is strong. There's nothing some wouldn't do for those they love. As we dig deeper into Hyde Street, we've learned not everything is black and white. A tragedy can quickly turn into a residency on Hyde Street. For that reason I keep falling more in love with the Hyde Street stories, and Sisterhood is no different. A fantastic first issue to another new story, with an unexpected cliff hanger of an ending. Sisterhoods creative team doesnt rush its way into the true horror story of the series, instead taking almost all of its time building up the players involved. Despite a couple missteps involving Violet, this choice is very successful leading to a shocking final page. Plot Sophie and Violet are childhood friends, and a tragedy involving the death of Violet's mother brought them closer together. Both attend college, and Violet wants to fit in, so she applies to join the sorority called SIGMA IOTA. During a ritual to enter the sorority, Violet drowns in the pool. Devastated, Sophie tries to uncover the culprits but is unsuccessful. Desperate, she arrives at a street where an occult shop called SISTERHOOD is located. The host offers her the chance to retrieve Violet's soul for a price she will later charge. Sophie awakens from a nightmare and discovers Violet is on the other side of the mirror, asking her to help her exact her revenge. An interesting story supporting the Hyde Street saga where we meet a resident of this place who is in charge of collecting souls. Art It's detailed, and through mesmerizing sequences and eerie splash pages, supported by a gloomy tone, it manages to raise goosebumps. The art offers excellent anatomy definition that allows for easy comparisons. Summary Sophie wants to reunite with her best friend Violet and, desperate, turns to a place called SISTERHOOD... more

Not overly original but very well executed. Loved the writing and art. We'll see how it plays out, but it seems to be screaming for a mid-budget horror movie adaptation.

Sisterhood is a typical Hyde Street cautionary tale, and we all know how it will end eventually. There's nothing wrong with that. I'm not sure though if this particular story with its teenage revenge plot is interesting enough to justify an extra mini series. Also, Leila Leiz's artwork is probably not everybody's cup of tea. I can see that she is not a bad artist, but she seems inexperienced when it comes to comic book storytelling, and I just don't like that particular style. I probably would have rated it a 5, but the fact that it's not concluded in one issue makes it a 4. Sorry.
