Now that the initial premise is delivered, the challenge will lie in keeping everything interesting. The progression through the first three stories of the series is enjoyable enough. King has given the series an intriguing momentum, but it will be difficult to keep it engaging with Joan fully aware of whats going on. She doesnt know WHY its going on, though...which will likely be the mystery moving forward. The success of the series is going to rely on what King does with the central mystery of the premise. Overall, Lover Everlasting is a phenomenal first issue but with some flaws. One of them is how expressive the art is but constrained by the repetitive panel layout on each page. Beyond that, the issue establishes the main character, conflict, and theme from the start. There's a lot of details that were clearly added to make sure the comic nailed the style but at the same time, it all feels updated and fits modern comics. I read the issue twice in an attempt to understand what Tom King was trying to accomplish here.  At first, I thought he was parodying the old romance comics of the 50s and 60s, but theres more to the book than that.  I feel ultimately its going to turn into a Twin Peaks type story that may always be as bizarre and puzzling as this first issue.  Time will tell. Beautiful comic. Which is FREE. The powerhouse team of Tom King and Elsa Charretier achieved perfection with this opening issue. That is FREE. I mean the story is so damn intriguing, the art is gorgeous and everything together just achieves the perfect set-up, tone, and leaves you in awe. And did I mentioned that despite being an incredible romantic, misterious and thrillering comicbook, it is also godamn FREE? Like once a month, BAMS! free comic. So yeah, perfect comic AND free. Go. Read. Now.

idk how, but Tom King's work recently has been growing on me. I actually do like this issue and cant wait to see whats going to happen next.

Lovely read, I absolutely adore this trippy premise that's perfectly contrasted with Silver Age-style dialogue and art. Makes for a truly unique book on the shelves.
