Hyde Street #5

Johns is a solidly respectable writer. One gets the feeling that he may have known exactly what the art team was capable of doing with the visuals for this particular issue and written the script accordingly...allowing Miss Goodbodys story to resonate more through the artwork than it does through anything particularly clever in the script. Hes got a much larger plan with respect to the series. There are a lot of elements in play and hes working with a lot of different characters. Every issue is going to embrace the anthology format of the series in different ways. Miss Glee Goodbody is a winner, although she doesnt see herself in those terms. In Hyde Street #5, the proprietor of Fat-Free aims for excellence and never waivers. She will do anything to achieve the results she desires. But Miss Goodbody swims in dangerous waters. She knows a moment of weakness can invite a feeding frenzy. Read Full Review

Hyde Street #5 reveals the origin story of Ms. Goodbody, which makes up for in emotional weight what it lacks in scares. Another Devour one-shot is in the works, meaning that she isn't done putting the "die" in "diet" just yet. Read Full Review

The story of Miss Goodbody, while still checking most of the boxes for a creepy little cautionary tale, isn't quite as interesting as the origins told previous issues. The clean art perfectly encapsulates the mid-eighties fitness club setting, but ultimately doesn't convey as much horror and emotion as regular penciler Ivan Reis is capable of. One problem with Johns's writing is that the issues sometimes just end just somewhere, without a satisfying conclusion to the chapter. It feels as if there are pages missing. That's certainly the case here.
