I am highly impressed with Williamson and Reilly showcasing beloved characters in new light and circumstances, as nothing truly feels untouchable to the universe. The pair enormously respect the material but never let it prevent them from charting into new territories. Before this, I would not have considered myself a G.I. Joe fan, but now I understand why the brand has lasted so long.Duke #2continues the strong streak from the other titles of the Energon Universe, making each release feel essential. Considering where the latest issue lands, the team demonstrates the vast possibilities of where Duke and the series can go and might end up. There is still a way to go before the iconic G.I. However, the final page throws an interesting new wrinkle into the proceedings with an unexpected addition to the story (unless of course you've checked out any of Skybound's preview and hype material for the series.) A great mix between action, character introductions and plot advancement. Not much to say about this issue except that each page was compelling and I loved reading it. I really enjoy the formation of GI Joe group in this universe. Every book is a hit for this written universe. Ending the story with some eye-candy after being filled with Duke and crews ripped muscles is also nice. Its all good all the way.

This is a lot different from the Duke I grew up with who always commanded respect. But I'm really enjoying it nonetheless. It also gave a great introduction to just a few of the many Joes to yet be introduced in this universe. And just as before this issue ends with the promise of more excitement in #3. Looking forward to it.

I liked a lot about this issue. The beginning with Clutch, though Duke heals up pretty quickly once the bullets are removed. The entrance of Rock n Roll and Stalker, who is one of my favorites. After loving the suspense and intrigue of the debut issue, this one took a step back from the high octane thrills and focused on Duke's run from the government conspiracy. He meets up with Clutch to try and lay low but not before Stalker and Rock N' Roll catch up to them and take them to the Pit. Even with a cool chase/attempted escape scene, I found this issue to be a bit of a slog with its restrained pacing, but that's mostly because the first issue got me so amped for more. Williamson is taking his time to lay the groundwork for Duke's story without needing to rely on overused tropes. It's an interesting approach to G.I.
