Wonder Woman #775

Like many of the titles published by DC Comics currently, Wonder Woman is on fire! Wonder Woman #775 continues to push the story forward with intriguing characterization through thoughtful writing and exciting art. It's excellent storytelling on all levels and compels the reader to consider the big picture and broader meaning. Wonder Woman's wisdom in the present is paired with Young Diana's strength in the past. Though it WOULD be nice to see Bellaire and company do a full-length Young Diana series, the pairing between past and present works quite well for the time being. This arc is starting to embrace its epic quest feel better than when it started. At this point Wonder Woman doesnt need to rush back to the regular timeframe as her peers as Cloonan and Conrad have a firm grasp on their approach and its paying off. Read Full Review

The art by Andy MacDonald gives this story a very surreal and disturbing vibe, with more in common with the world of the Dreaming than a traditional WW comic. Read Full Review

What once seemed like it would be an inventive story that explored the Sphere of the Gods and found intriguing ways to incorporate Diana's rogues gallery, now feels like a story propped up by a gimmick. Read Full Review

While this series had an interesting start, it has gone downhill with each issue.  Bringing back the Olympians should have been huge, but Cloonan and Conrad play it off so small here that it made me wonder if we were even supposed to care.  I have been waiting patiently for a good Wonder Woman book, and it looks like that wait will continue. The Olympic adventure comes to an end. While there was quite some exposition once more, I appreciate the fleshing out of events. Diana’s choices are interesting, and how Zeus reacts to them even more. This Issue also connects to what is happening in Wonder Girl quite well. I can’t wait to see how both titles synch up later this year. The art seemed more clunky than in the Issue before but the few dynamic poses looked good and The Keeper has a cool design. I'm a sucker for plague-doctor-inspired designs. Can't deny that. I also enjoyed the brighter and warmer color palette of Olympus. Diana showing the Satyr his place gives this Issue an extra point. Such a cool sequence of panels. I've come to enjoy the backup a lot. The start felt dull but it has come into its own. Can’t wait to see if Circe is truly behind the attack or if there are other powers at work. Like the other parts before it, this one too brings back some great Wonder lore I can't help but appreciate. more

Pacing felt off a bit in this issue, a little too much time with characters who are just plot elements for me mostly. But Diana continues to be the one who has to keep the gods in line, not through force but her integrity. You really have to appreciate her attitudes throughout.

The main story was fine... I feel like this run is losing steam fast after exiting Asgard. Which is a shame because I really thought this would be the run to get Wonder Woman out of her bland funk she's been in since Rucka's Rebirth run. The backup is really boring. I just do not care about young Diana or her adventures.

Going downhill is an understatement. No wonder people care little for Diana's title. And sales show it. No wonder Yara is such a hit. Because she is written as a compelling character in a settings we actually give a damn about. And acts accordingly to her character. For what started a promising run turns out a not very promising disappointment. Gods being brought back with as much effort that a highschool kid could pull of if he had an IQ higher than squirrels. Diana and her journey is just boring and completely unrelatable. Who cares at all with what is going on with her by this point. Yey, another realm. Another disappointing climax. Can we skip to hammering down the patriarchy on Earth - 11 already. We already know it. The only th ing we might still like is her getting some Siggi. Otherwise? No one would buy a single issue. Not that people are... If all you have to gather our attention is Diana getting laid than you fail. Fitting end for a hero that saved DC multiverse in Death Metal. The story is boring. Jumping between the realms and complete disregard for gods is boring. They are like a terrible plot device. Downplayed so she could shine. I remember Pérez run. Gods being terrible beings. But still gods. Commanding respects. This? This is laughable. I'm waiting for some steaming action with Siggi at this point. Because all that is compeling in this book is the backup story. You just skip pages like yeah, yeah now give me little Diana. And it doesn't disappoint. more
