Overall, four exceptional stories without a real weak link. This is how you do an anthology and an event tie-in and make it count. Read Full Review

Shadow War Zone #1 is a highly entertaining issue that works on two levels. It enhances the overall story of "Shadow War by casting its narrative net far and wide, while also managing to set the stage for multiple storylines to come in the future. This is a wonderful collection of short, snappy stories, and I thoroughly recommend picking up a copy. Read Full Review

    AIPT - David Brooke

    May 17, 2022

All in all, Shadow War Zone #1 is a good anthology, although in general, it doesn't tie too heavily into the crossover event. It reads more like good taste testers and starters for bigger stories to come, which is a good thing, but it's not quite what this book is selling given the event itself. Pick up this issue if you like any of the characters above, but skip it if you're looking for Shadow War developments. Read Full Review

But Why Tho? - William Tucker

    May 17, 2022

Shadow War Zone #1 is an anthology with much to love. It is rife with action, interesting characters, and gorgeous art. It extends to the outer reaches of Deathstrokes associates and sees them interacting in their unique ways. Whilst they are different, three of the four stories could be considered slightly repetitive in their structure, even if their tones are varied. However, they all carry with them the personality of the person leading them. The Talia story is important as it is something refreshing from the intense violence of the other chapters, but it has depth and weight to the storytelling. These are fun, small tales with focus. Shadow War Zone #1 has enough good stories and art in it to make it fairly enjoyable, but it's not a home run. The first and last stories are the best, but all the stories are enticing enough to see what happens next in the Shadow War. Read Full Review

The cover is just a floating head poster, but Batman isn't in this comic, they should have Harley or Angel Breaker on the cover instead of Batman, which is sad because this cover is really well-drawn. 1/2 The art is really good in this comic, each art style compliments each story, from Black Canary's dark and rough art style to Talia's more fantastical style to Harley's cartoony art style to even Ghost-Maker's more generic art style pops because it is so different from the other art styles in this comic. 2.5/2 The dialogue is quite good, except Ghost-Maker's mentorship of Clownhunter is absolutely amazing and shows that if written well, Ghost-Maker could be a great character. 2/2 The story is a well-balanced anthology where each story holds more

I really enjoyed this tie-in a bit. I like how we see other characters deal with this problem and they're not written bad at all.

Why does this exist? I hate using the term "cash grab", and even though this doesn't really fit the description, the word definily comes to mind after reading this. Nothing here feels like it needs to exist. Black Canary's fight with Angel Breaker went nowhere, we still don't know much about the two. The only purpose of their encounter is to set up another fight in the future, feels flat and disappointing. And that's the only story that's worth mentioning. You can definitely have some fun with the rest of the comic, it isn't bad, but again, why does this exist? This is supposed to show the impact this crossover is having but it feels so small and inconsequential. It also suffers from "Character is on the main cover but plays no role i more

Pretty frustrating that they put Batwing on the cover (in a great rendition of his costume too), and then only have him show up for one page in the actual comic.

Black Canary vs Angel Breaker was the best story here. Everything else was just boring and didn't add anything to the event.

It's a mixed bag, but overall the quality of most of the stories wasn't great. The Black Canary story was pretty good, but Talia's story was mediocre, and the Clownhunter and Harley stories were pretty bad. Clownhunter becoming a master ninja in no time didn't make much sense, and the Harley story tried to convince the readers she would be an asset to any team and completely failed. Overall, a skippable issue.
