This is a nicely paced issue. The art is especially good by Ronan Cliquet. I hope he stays on awhile. While I wish that we can give Dick back to being himself, Jurgens and Cliquet make the most of what they were given. It makes for a really compelling story indeed. Read Full Review

Lastly, it looks like the Nightwings have put the "Is the Cabbie good or bad" conversation to bed, which is a little disappointing. Like Ric pointed out, it takes four people to do the job of the real Nightwing. Wouldn't it be fun to see those four people take on the real Nightwing? Read Full Review

There's nothing noticeably bad about this issue, but it's the first in a while that makes me wonder how long the new Nightwings arc can last. Under the current setup, I'd say not that much longer, but maybe Jurgens has some tricks to reinvigorate this creative decision once again? Read Full Review

This is basically the Heroes Reborn version (and we saw how well that worked out for Marvel) of Nightwing so take that as you will. But Dan Jurgens is a ray of hope in an otherwise bleak situation. Read Full Review

I love the art and I'm interested in the story going forward from the Offer that was presented at the end of the book, not to mention that there's some character development here that feels like a cool direction for the character.  It's just too bad that a lot of this issue was just recapping Ric's amnesia in a way that felt like it needed to beat the idea in my head again and again.  It's also too bad that the Nightwing Squad had so little to do that they stood around and just reiterated what they talked about last issue. Once again, DC appears to be tripping over dollars to pick up pennies. They were so desperate to make Dick different in an attempt to make him interesting, and this issue continues to prove that they're not really doing anything different with him at all. Four issues into his run as writer of Nightwing, Dan Jurgens has completed the transition and pivoted his entire cast as well as the lead character's outlook. Ric Grayson knows who he was, doesn't remember anything about it and doesn't care. The "Nightwings" know that Grayson exists and have no idea of his background. They just know that he's good. Grayson has a love interest, and she's cool with everything. Jurgens hits that reset button with authority, leading with a five-page opening montage that restates Grayson's history and outlook. It's as tightly done as anything in comics today, something that every single writer of every single DC book should read, analyze and internalize as it is better than anything they have done. No unnecessary verbiage. No book-length captions or narrator boxes. It's a throwback to when comics were easy and fun to read, and that's a joy after slogging through Nightwing's contemporaries. The art was solid, unspectacular and does nothing to detract from the story. Few liberties are taken with layouts. Coloring is comparatively simple when compared to other DC books. The book does have the obligatory Year of the Villain "offer", one that actually is somewhat integrated into the larger view of the book. Again, Jurgens knows how to tell his story AND be the company man. Best book of the week for DC. The future is bright, and I'm excited to see where Jurgens takes us. If you're not reading it, you're missing out. more

Good issue. This issue makes it clear, that Ric also cares about small crimes like stealing a kidney& not just about the big crimes of super villains. ( So I don’t know how some people still can claim Ric is more selfish than Dick. I’m wondering, if they even read this series.) What I also liked were the scenes between Ric& Bea. Dick is making the next step& tells her everything about his past as Robin/ Nightwing, then they have sex. Only question is, whether this was a good idea.I like Bea as a character& I hope her character gets more explored. I want Bea to be her own character, not just Dicks love interest ( but I have the feeling she dies soon). The Nightwings also make a short appearance talking about who Ric might be. What I didn’t like, that everything Ric stated in his monologue is nothing new. It was all best adressed in 54 already, so I don’t know why every writer has to mention in every issue, that Ric doesn’t want to hang out with the batfamily anymore? We get it. The Court of Owl was teased for this issue, but all they are doing in this issue is observing. They are trying to find out, which people are important in Rics life now. Then Lex appears& makes his offer. I don’t know what to think of Year of the Villains yet. It’s quite underwhelming up until now& the way Lex is portrayed, he feels like a copy of Neron from Underworld Unleashed, but without the fun part. I wasn’t a fan of the art in this issue. I’m missing Chris Mooneyham‘s art here. However the good thing with Nightwing lately is, that compared to other titles the series keeps being enjoyable& its quality doesn’t decrease. As for me I’m looking forward to the next issue. more

Yes I read the series. I don't just throw out reviews on comics I don't read. And when I stated he was being selfish I meant in terms of his pushing away his family and friends because he doesn't have memories of them anymore. I wasn't referring to his over all morals in terms of being a hero. There is a huge difference there.

Don't take this as criticism but do you realize that you often question rather others actually read the comics when their reviews are different then yours? There is a saying, I can't remember the exact wording of it but it comes down to this - 10 people can see the exact same thing yet come away with 10 different views on what they saw. Reviews and reviewers are the same. Not everyone is going to read something and get the same thing out of it you do.

I wasn’t talking about you, when I wrote this. I hear many fans saying that on Twitter& I know from them, that they stopped reading Nightwing. And agreed people can have different opinions. Things would be boring otherwise. As for Dick I don’t think he’s selfish for pushing Bruce& Barbara away, I mean he’s the traumatized person, who has to deal with his trauma not Barbara or Bruce, so I think he has every right to do what’s best for him. It also would make no sense, if he didn’t change at all.

He went through trauma after all& why would he fake feelings for people he has no connection with anymore? I find his solution more honest. I also think he will be back with them at some point. However even if he was selfish for how he treats Barbara, it doesn’t make him overall selfish, since he still risks his life for people.

Yeah. I don’t mind, I mean Bruce has been terrible to Dick many times& he only thaught him violence. I think Dick can do better than that. That’s why I’m fine with Dick walking away from the Batfamily for some time.

True. Bruce really isn't a good father. Which is why I found it so funny reading the reactions fans had a few issues back in Batman when he hit Tim. Saying that was out of character for Batman. He's done that before to one of his kids. Hell it's not even the first time he hit Tim out of anger.

It was a decent issue. I thought the artwork was really good. I dont mind the whole ric grayson thing but he seems exactly like Dick Grayson but with no memory. They need to stop focusing on " the nightwings". They individually all suck as characters so none of them will be getting an expanded role when this storyline is over. And how has not one of these detectives not thought he is Nightwing already. I mean Nightwing disappears, they take his suits, and then someone with all of Nightwing's skills shows up and helps them. Plus he has the same mask pretty much. Terrible detectives lol

This book feels like it's been treading water ever since 'Ric's' injury but I liked this issue well enough. I'm much happier to read Jurgens than Lobdell and I liked the art too. There was one major no-no, though... I think superhero comics (the ones involving secret ID's at least) should *really* avoid acknowledging facial recognition software and to the degree they just pretend it doesn't exist. If it *does* exist in the DCU everyone on earth would know the secret identities of anyone that doesn't wear a mask that covers their entire head. If facial recognition can ID Dick Grayson there's no way it can't ID Clark Kent or Bruce Wayne or Barry Allen or, well, pretty much everyone.

Facial recognition software (IRL) can ID someone based on a small portion of a face. Anyone in a domino mask would be done. Folks like Black Canary would be done. Green Arrow (with his signature beard) would be WELL done.

Yeah, you're right, I know what you mean. Most of them would be i'd. I feel the same way about snipers. If you aren't invulnerable, have a healing factor, or a spider sense a good sniper could take out most superheroes from a mile away before they knew what was happening.

Agreed. I guess I'm just used to indulging in a healthy dose of suspension of disbelief with comics and somehow this particular thing of facial recognition software just took me out of that. Really hard to suspend disbelief about that.

I love the character of Nightwing (Dick Grayson) and still am not enjoying this story arc. Dan Jurgens has definitely helped it, but it's still not a good storyline. Let's get this over with and bring back Dick Grayson as Nightwing!

Dump these new Nightwings and move on already! I want Nightwing back!. This series is so losing any appeal to me at all. I'm really thinking of dropping it. It's just not any good anymore. And I'm really starting to dislike Dick/Ric. Okay I get he doesn't remember or have feelings for his family and friends anymore. I understand that. But come on just because you no long have those emotions and memories does that mean you can't honor them and yourself really and try to build new ones? These are people that loved him and he loved back and he's just writing them off like none of it matters because he doesn't remember. He's so selfish and even to a point cold now. He can take the time to get to know and befriend the new Nightwings, complete st rangers to him, but he can't try to understand and form relationships with people he once loved? That's just crap!!! It's really making him unlikable as a character. Sure rebuilding relationships is hard and in his case doubly so I'm sure but to not even have him try. That's just ruining a well loved character. I hope this story ends soon and we get Nightwing back. He has always been my favorite Robin and a favorite character of mine period so to see him turning so unlikable makes me sad. I think it would have been better if they had just killed the character off instead of doing this to him. Also one other thing about the Nightwings that bothers the hell out of me is how is it these 3 detectives haven't run a background check on him and at least learned he was a cop? Granted it was for only all of about 5 seconds but still I'm sure it would have been the first thing to come up. And yes he's going by Ric now and was Dick then but Richard is his legal first name and would be on his records. Plus how hard is it to figure out Ric would be short for Richard. So at least 1 of the 3 of them should've found that out about him. And since they have doubts about him you would think 1 of them would have checked his background out. These characters are just lame all the way around. more
