I do want to see more of the Joker's Daughter in the future. She's not Harley Quinn, nor should she be, but she brings her own type of insanity wherever she appears. She does help keep this comic in the Bat-Universe. Read Full Review

The issue does have a bit of a jolting ending but I liked it enough. It feels like it was rushed but hey, everything else works. And the art by Travis Moore makes everything better. He gives us some great visuals here. All in all it's a decent book and I hope they keep up the energy and creativity on this title. Read Full Review

Nightwing 57 was exactly what I needed this week. A fun issue that made me feel like I was reading a Dick Grayson issue again. Duela is still way dialed down, but she is far from done doing what she came to do, and I can't wait to see how her story continues, even if she may be away for a little bit. I hope that this issue is a sign of Ric moving away from all his Bummer-Barry thinking, but we will have to see if he's as willing to jump in with his new team when the next emergency call comes. VerdictWhile it isn't a groundbreaking masterpiece, Nightwing #58 is still a great example of good, well crafted sequential art. The story made sense, the characters are believable/lovable/hateful, depending on their purpose, and the art is gorgeous. Whatever you want to call him, the main character of this title has been a huge part of my life for over four decades, so, I'm going to stick with him, support him, and the fine, talented creators that continue to bring us his adventures, until I find a valid reason not to. Can we just talk about the art for a second too? I mean, Travis Moore and Tamra Bonvillain do such a wonderful job drawing up the comic. Moore does a great job at both the action pieces and the emotional close ups. Bonvillain colors the panels beautifully. The Joker's Daughter is upping her game in Bludhaven and letting us all know that she has a lot planned for this city, while we also see our heroes working more as a team which is nice.  I just wish we knew more about them at this point, but maybe patience is the key there.  All in all, the art is great and I can't wait to find out more about these new characters and this new iteration of our classic hero. Nightwing #58 ends with Ric picking up Barbara Gordon on her way to the airport. The conversation they have and Ric's facial expressions giving the feeling there's something more to what's said. That at the teaser for the next issue being "Old Flames" could have multiple meanings. Read Full Review

I hope there is a resounding conclusion to this arc soon and it gives us a better Nightwing. I don't even mind him being Ric, if it ends in him being Nightwing. It would be a very roundabout way to move the character into a new phase but might pay off if done right. I saw nice new bits of him when Dick was a spy, even though I saw it as a setback. Here, I am looking forward to how this concludes, what new foes exist in Bludhaven rather than rogues pulled from Batman's list, and how Bludhaven grows as a character city. I will continue to see how this plays out, but hopefully, this particular saga moves on very soon. Read Full Review

This isn't working. DC needs to cut their losses and just move on. There hasn't been a quality writer on this book since Tim Seeley. Not only is that a shame, but it's also insulting and disrespectful to treat a character that's been around for nearly 80 years this way. "I may not be Nightwing anymore, but now I am part of the Nightwings." This line really encompasses how ridiculous this whole set of events has been, but still not hating it.

It’s a nice quick simple issue. Would have been better it extended it to three or four issues because it seems like this story arc is over. The art looks good but can easily be a forgettable issue even story arc.

Would be better if Ric was tossed by the wayside. Everything with him is forgettable at best, at worst it’s a crime againt the character. I do agree in that no matter how good the art is if the story is asinine to its core it can’t compensate.

Meh. I don't really care about anything that's happening here. I don't like Ric. And I don't like that his status quo is constantly re-established every single issue, more than once in an issue, like everyone forgot it. It's a really annoying crutch the writers are using.

The guy contradicts himself by the panel is an utter shitheel in comparison to the real Dick Grayson. Whereas the “nightwings” are so confidently out of their depth murderous Jason Todd was a better Nightwing than they’ll ever be, murder and all. This book produces nothing but constant facepalms.

One could see ric was a shitheel going nowhere from the 2nd issue. Seeing how he has not changed at all is not only repetitive but already grating. Honestly amazed they have not gotten rid of this poor excuse of a “character” already.

Nope it was great until 56& 57&58 were ok, but not amazing. Ric did change a little, he is willing to help the Nightwings, what he wasn’t in 50/51. The repetitive thing is, that we keep getting monologue like „I was a hero, don’t want to be one, but I help now“ since 8 issues. The Ric story will last at least until July.

It was an ok issue, but had many problems. On the positive side it’s the first good portrayal of Joker‘s Daugther I have seen ( just like last issue). She has more than just 1 line, even so her plan is a little weird. But the problem is, that just like Scarecrow Ric beat her way too easily. There was no excitement in Ric fighting her, since he also just beat her with one single punch. If Ric can beat Batman‘s super villains so easily I am asking myself, why doesn’t Bruce quit& Ric takes over? What comes next? Ric beating Joker with one punch? It’s just ridiculous& just overpowering Dick, so it’s quite boring& an insult for the villains. They all deserve better. As for Ric there’s still no character development& he starts to get on my nerves ( not that Dick wouldn’t annoy me, but he certainly wasn’t so annoying in Nightwing Vol. 2 from the 90ies. That Vol. was readable& enjoyable even so you aren’t the biggest Nightwing fan ever). He is still repeating the same line over& over again, that he doesn’t want to be a „hero“& live a normal life, but now he has agreed to help the Nightwings, which we already know since 56, but it gets mentioned once again. As for the dialogue with Barbara, fans of the ship might enjoy it, but as for me I couldn’t care less about Dick‘s love life. Barbara also once again feels like the petty ex girlfriend for stalking Ric all the time. That would be below Oracle. The art was great& the dialogues were well written, if you compare it to Kings stories. But overall it’s kind of „meh“. more

They can’t be serious with this. This is laughably bad, but close to just being sad. With that last rhyme I’ve written better material than what’s in this issue. Flushing the cost of this issue down the toilet is a better use of money than purchasing this issue, I would not recommend anyone even read this. Another issue of a protagonist that claims “I want nothing to do with hero work, I crave a normal life” to immediately follow that with “I’m a hero now, I need to help people”. How he contradicts himself by the panel has long been irksome, now it just shows how the writers/editors just have no clue what to do with the character. Here’s an idea, get rid of “ric” and bring Dick Grayson back. No one cares for the shitheel that is “ric”, no one asked for this already drawn out story, and it just continues to be grating. I mean being enthusiastic about getting rid of a person who has only shown kindness and support to him, good going “ric”. Seeing Barbara apologize to this jerk was awful, when he should be the one apologizing to her. The “nightwings” continue to be as one-note as ever, now just more confidently rushing into situations they are in over their heads for and with not even the idea of a plan set up. Seeing lead generic cop tell “ric” he doesn’t want him involved in their business, except when they need him (which is apparently always), was a facepalm worthy moment. Jason Todd back when he was murdering people masquerading as Nightwing in the storyline Blood Brothers was a more effective hero and he wasn’t even a hero then. Joker’s Daughter offers nothing here and could be susbstituted with just about any C to D-list villain from Gotham and the story would remain the same. This is absolutely atrocious writing and probably will continue to be a book to avoid until Dick Grayson is properly restored. more

THE GOOD: -Hey, good art! Why is that always a common thread with poorly written issues. THE BAD: -This issue exists. -You can't get me to care about the Legion of Nightwing, even with Ric on the team. I don't know who that of that godawful idea, but they need to make sure they never come up with such a travesty again. -This issue is corny. And not in a fun, nostalgic way. In a painful, cringe-y way that makes reading this issue feel like having your skin peeled off. -The Joker's daughter has gone from annoying to boring. I don't know whether to call that an improvement. -Apparently the writer of this issue decided to abandon having actual characters in this issue and instead simply just have mannequins that look l ike the characters pose for cool action scenes while spouting cheesy dialogue. Okay. -What a dumb, pointless issue. -I hate Barbara in this series. Almost as much as Bea. Not nearly as much as Detective Wing and the Squad of Nightwings though. -This issue is just trying too hard. It's end is trying too hard to be heartwarming, it's story is trying too hard to be suspenseful. the series in general is just trying to hard to be refreshingly new. And none of that is working. more
