Knight Terror #2 is exactly what one would expect from the second installment of an event storyline, an issue providing glimpses into Insomina's origin, motivations, and the existence of the Nightmare Stone. While still a fun and intense read, Williamson has a huge task of completing the setup/background for the event, giving readers a satisfying conclusion to the event, and fitting it into the overall Dawn of DC banner umbrella. Knight Terrors #2 has a lot to accomplish. So much of the real world has been obscured by the other tie-ins, so Williamson has to shoulder the responsibility of exposition. The pace can be slow, but this comic is keeping the others afloat. Read Full Review

There are dark and sinister shadows around the entire issue. Its not very easy to bring authentic horror to the page in a way that sneaks in around the perceptions of a reader. Populating a world full of people having nightmares with dead people and the resurrected heroes of ages past is a very powerful step in the right direction. We dont know the characters nor do we really know the rules. And even after this event is over, what does it lead towards? What was its purpose? Where was the setup for the event? Readers, I want to like this event but it just seems out of place and without direction. After two issues of Knight Terrors and almost every single tie-in issue, Im still royally confused. Knight Terrors #2 is a story that's stretched out in order to take a simple premise and have it last as long as necessary. It jumps from flashback to dream sequence to flashback with not much narrative momentum or consequence. Knight Terrors #2 is a dud.  With the tie-ins barely doing anything to push things forward, Joshua Willamson should be doing more in the main book to make this Event feel... eventful.  Sadly, that's not the case.  One month in, I still wonder who thought this story was good enough to be an Event, let alone an Event that put so many better books on hold for two months! I’m still mostly on board. I like the idea that Insomnia is outraged by the idea that super heroes get to die and come back to life all the time, whereas regular people just die. The Sandman flashback art style was fun, as well. I’m a tad confused on some plot points though, as I feel like the rules of the nightmare realm and Insomnia’s powers haven’t been explained very well. The subtext of this series has potential, but the plot itself—bad guy wants a thing so he can do a thing so good guys have to get the thing first—is pretty tired.

to be honest this issue felt flat. this event so far isnt as entertaining as Dark Crisis or Infinite Frontier. The art, story and pacing leave much to be desired.

The "Knight Terrors" main event issues grows up when Deadman tooks the lead (now with the fun company of prime Sandman), but still a little confuse with its plot developing.

Look, I really like Dodds and his entire look. Undead verion of him I am jiving with. However, there feels like such little movement in this story. 3 Issues in and we are still sort of in a talk and learn phase, not much fighting or moving stuff forward. Not much to say as not much happens. Nice art though.

KNIGHT TERRORS #2 is out which means we’re finally back to the main event story two weeks after KNIGHT TERRORS #1 came out. I’ve been looking forward to getting back to this story as plot details have been few and far between in the tie-ins that have been released in-between these two issues. They’ve all left me anxious for a better understanding what’s happening to cause all these heroes to fall asleep. We’re now officially halfway through the event and I can’t say that I’m any closer to feeling like I have a clue. But I’m trying not to let my frustrations with the larger event cloud my judgment of this issue, so let’s dive in! I’m really enjoying Williamson’s work with Deadman. He’s given the character a quirky narration style that mixes moments of humor with someone who can snap into being a capable problem-solver. We also get some fun exchanges between Deadman (who is still possessing Batman’s body) and Sandman, and then Deadman (who is still possessing Batman’s body) and Red Tornado, that Williamson writes perfectly. He also introduces a few new elements to the story via flashbacks and dreams, including background on the Nightmare Stone, how Insomnia came to be interested in it, and why Insomnia has a vendetta against the Justice League. We also get an update on what’s happening to all the heroes outside the nightmares we’ve been seeing them in (hint: it’s not good news) and are introduced to a new threat in the real world — Insomnia’s Sleepless Knights. Keeping a reader grounded as they go through multiples scenes/timelines within the same issue can be hard, but the creative team did a wonderful job creating distinct visuals for each scene. It helps that KNIGHT TERRORS #2 had the creative trio of Giuseppe Camuncoli, Stefano Nesi, and Caspar Wijngaard on hand to craft these unique approaches. While I continue to love Wijngaard’s Deadman designs and would read an entire Deadman series with this style, the cartoonish medieval design during the flashback of Sandman’s previous case was particularly effective in capturing the nature of the story it was telling. While I enjoyed most of Williamson’s writing and the art was top-notch, the issue is severely held back by the weight of all the plot devices it uses to share new information. While each individual story was interesting, the issue could never settle on a steady pace because we were jumping around so much. I feel bad criticizing the construction of this issue, but I wish Williamson would have spent more time on the real world. He’s been asked to do a lot to keep this event together and it’s disheartening to realize the backstories in this issue are more interesting than the main event story DC is trying to tell. The publisher deserves blame for poor construction and execution of the event so far. The sum of the event’s parts haven’t provided a cohesive through-line to get invested in and it’s getting late. Rating: 6.5/10 more
