Flash #87

With Joshua Williamson at the helm, The Flash has been one of my favourite titles of the Rebirth era. I look forward to meeting this Paradox and learning how he is connected to the superb Year One story. Christian Duce delivers some stunning art in this issue. Even in the moments between Flash and Cold, Duce's art showcases the strength and tension between the two of them. Even chained across from each other, both characters seem to constantly look like they're flexing. Read Full Review

Josh Williamson is almost four years into the longest ongoing run of the DC Rebirth era, and he never fails to surprise. Flash #87, an epilogue to Rogues' Reign and a massive setup for what comes next, moves just as fast as its lead character. Read Full Review

In the end, this was an improvement over the last handful of issues, because it got back to what matters most: character. The best thing that could have happened was to get past the crossover event and get back to business as usual. Hopefully, Williamson plans to return to the stories focusing on the mysteries of the four Forces, which have been the best of the last couple years arcs, but until then, at least he seems to be back on an upward swing, quality-wise. Man wasn't that previous storyline a lot of fun? Well I hope you didn't want to see how everything that happened would affect The Flash going forward because Willamson takes an entire issue to let us know that things are back to normal. Nothing that happened in that story really matters and now we are back to the status quo to see the Flash continue to juggle work, his personal life, and his life as a superhero. It begs the question, why are we even getting invested in these stories when they are just going to change them back when they're over? Read Full Review

Prelude: Flash has been quite good recently as Rogue's Reign reached it's end. Now we're in the aftermath as we race towards The Flash Age. The Good: I do find it interesting about what's happening with the Speed Force. Paradox has a nice lead in here. Duce's art is good here. The Bad: I don't like how Cold and Flash's relationship is portrayed here. The Lisa Barry thing doesn't even make sense. Conclusion: It's good enough but it could have been done a lot more effectively especially since the main problems had to do with Snart and could have been fixed together.

The dialogue in the last arc was a little shaky so I was happy to see a fun exchange between Barry and Snart to start the issue out. There's also the return of Pied Piper, and a pretty cool cliffhanger that leaves me excited for more. The dumb stuff in this issue is the choice to imprison Flash and Cold in Arkham Asylum, and not much reason is given for this. Seems like the only purpose it serves is allowing Cold to make an easy escape. I am enjoying the Speed Force problems Barry is having, his power has fluctuated between weaker-than-normal and "Super-Saiyan" levels and I wanna see where this is going. The art is solid as usual, and I'm looking forward to Paradox and whatever danger He/She may pose to Barry.

Pretty good, even if it's quite a mess. The Paradox stuff sounds rather exciting, especially since it has been teased for so long now.

"Practically twins, nerd" Wow, no wonder the Joker always escapes, Arkham's security has more holes that the swiss cheese. But this issue was a good read. It's a nice epilogue to the Rogue's Reign (Flash and Cold bond a little over their respective issues with their parents) and it sets up a new story with a new villain, ominously called Paradox, that is somehow tied to the Year One story (a story that I very much enjoyed). Probably the bad guy that Godspeed was working for. I'm interested. Bring on the Paradox.

Oh yeah Arkham Asylum is for sure the best place to house a flight risk criminal, since, you know, it’s so renowned for being secure. Brilliance in action here folks.
