I could not have imagined a better way for this Year One arc to have ended. It not only retold the story of Barry Allen from a different perspective but it helps embody who he is as The Flash. The ending of the arc sets up the future dangers that Barry will have to deal with. From the looks of things, he'll be in for quite a challenge as many sinister forces will be coming after him. The short snippet at the end teases a deadly alliance that will prove to be quite challenging for Barry. Read Full Review

I have been a fan of Williamson's Flash since issue #1, so I would have been happy if he had only put forth his usual effort. But with this issue, he has totally out of the park. I have a feeling that this issue will eventually be marked as a landmark issue for the character and a watershed moment in DC history. Read Full Review

This Year One storyline comes to a close with this extra-sized issue and while it has a satisfying end, it all ends in typical fashion. Nothing new or exciting happens and this plays out like any typical third act in a superhero story. Lots of great art and cool scenes really pull this issue together and I still found myself enjoying it. Perhaps I would have liked more, but I'm satisfied with what I got. Read Full Review

Great ending to Year One of the Flash, and what a cool story! They finally found a good, if brief, way to connect Wally and Wallace together, and honestly, I love it! Chapter one was great, overall, and I enjoyed pretty much every second of it. The art overall was great, too, though there were moments where Wally and Wallace looked a bit weird. Maybe Porter should stick to older people, I don't think he does kids too well. A minor thing. Chapter two was interesting. We go back to the present, and Barry remembers his past. But more importantly, Barry is optimistic again! He's still going to have hardships, and Wally's "death" is still an open wound to him. But he remembers hope and the future, and he pushes forward. That is definitely the Barry I remember. By the way, I feel like I've warmed up to Kolins' art. The first time I encountered it, I remember that I was a bit repulsed by it. Over time, however, I actually grew to like it. It looks pretty cool to me, especially with all the contrasting. Chapter three is interesting, since Luthor definitely isn't necessarily pushing to the big titles. Captain Cold is big, but it's slightly surprising that Lex went for Reverse Flash. Then again, CC is the more logical choice. I wonder what he wants most. The art is interesting. I like it, and it kinda reminds me of most comics these days: smooth. I like it. Overall, great read, and happy anniversary to the Flash! more

Many great character moments. Closes up nicely while setting up the future nicely. Happy go have stuck with this book since the Rebirth one shot in 2016 up to now. Take a bow folks!

What a fantastic book it was a real pleasure to read. I love Barry Allen he has so much heart and it’s inspirational. This was written very well and had wonderful artwork as well. If you are a fan of the flash it’s hard to imagine what’s not to like

El final de Año Uno fue como se esperaba, un cómic lleno de esperanza y redención ante un futuro incierto. Me encantó la conexión de la historia con el presente, así como El Año del Villano (que sigue dando mucho bombo pero aún no llega a nada). Un gran arco brindado por el gran Joshua.

"Not bad, kid..." Somewhere along the way both The Flash and this book lost the feeling of hope and essentially stopped being fun. Now, after incredibly fun Year One, Barry remembers how to be hopeful and runs toward the future with a smile. And now I'm hopeful too because it seems this book will become fun again.

I think 5-7 is average. Bad books get 4 and lower and good get 8 great get 9-10. I could’ve given it a 6 but it didn’t deserve lower. It’s a scoring system that I adopted from soccer where you start with a 6 and go up or down from there based on performance.

One would hope that the closing stanza of a "Year One" story would result in an epic moment. Spoiler: We didn't get it. Flash takes on Turtle for the last time (for a while, I presume). Turtle was one of the real interesting elements of the Year One arc, and I was hoping that this issue would firmly position him as Flash's new arch-nemesis in the same vein that Joker is to Batman or Luthor is to Superman. No so. Flash wins, Turtle is reduced to a whining little man and that is that. (Special mention goes to the "HOPE!" splash page. Flash has often been driven by his internal monologue, and this is Josh Williamson's attempt at a breakthrough for Barry Allen. But "hope"? Eeesh. I cringed. And chuckled. Not what Williamson was going for, I'm sure.) The junior Flashes, Wally and Wallace, make their appearance and thus help fill out the larger Flash world in Central City. Then, we are introduced to Steadfast and the Speed Force. This is not familiar territory to me, and it seems like Williamson rushes (pun intended?) through it to get to the closing monologue. That monologue is perhaps the best not for the words said/thought but rather the six panels previewing Flash's future. Villians, allies, tragedy, hope (of course, because hope is a big thing) and more. Howard Porter's art grated on me at first, but I suppose I've become accustomed to it. It's not my favorite art ever, but he does a decent job within his style. Not a bad book, just not great. I'd like to say that this story arc was enticing enough for me to stick with the book as a pull list item, but...no. At 4 bucks a pop, it's just not good enough to be worth my dollar. I liked The Flash a lot as a kid and gave Year One a chance, but it didn't clear the bar. --- The final scene, the Captain Cold section, is grafted onto the book and probably won't make the cut for the Year One trade paperback because it has zero bearing on the Year One arc. The Captain is a weary warrior with the Suicide Squad, but all is better because the Year of the Villain offer is on the way. But that's DC right now -- forcing this cross-continuity setup at the expense of the books themselves. Gotta cross-sell! more

The first two chapters of this issue were the usual Barry Allen fare. Just really boring. The third chapter with Captain Cold was pretty interesting though. I liked seeing a Suicide Squad that wasn't just the garbage movie version. And Captain Cold is just plainly more interesting than Barry Allen could ever be.
