Far Sector #9

The high concepts in Far Sector continue to be exciting, interesting and thought provoking. This mitigates some of the pacing issues of the book. Jo continues to be a conundrum, far from the perfect hero, but she has all the potential to be a breakout character for DC Comics. Her indiscretion with Councilor Marth still haunt her and she may be blind to his machinations. As the story enters the last quarter next issue, it feels like big things are about to happen. The issues starts out rather talky, with CanHaz sharing a bit more of City Enduring's history with the Green Lantern and offering a suggestion on where she might poke around. The revelations, and the comic's limited action, are saved for the later pages as Sojourner sneaks into Platform Solid Ground, an alien farmland where most of the City's food comes from. However, what she uncovers looks more like a prison camp involving the forced servitude that gives her more information about how City Enduring functions and what really keeps things running. Far Sector #9 offers another solid issue, but we'll have to wait until the next issue for the Green Lantern's response to her discovery. Read Full Review

Jamal Campbell delivers some beautiful imagery in this issue. Every page has some great visual moments. Unfortunately, there isn't much to the story and therefore the art is all that connects and engages. Read Full Review

Like a lot of the other reviews say, Jemisin needs to be a lot more subtle with her metaphors. It feels like Jo says "just like Earth/back home" on average twice per issue

In which we reestablish that Jo really doesn't like the food on this planet. Seriously, it appears that she has a breakthrough moment in the case and infiltrates a meme farm/labor camp. Campbell's art is still so choice, even if it lacks some of the grandeur of earlier issues. I hope it's because of the material this issue and not because he's having trouble keeping up. We're headed toward a resolution on this series - Jemesin is a pro, so we actually WILL have a resolution - and now it's a matter of how many twists and turns she tosses our way in the final quarter of the series.

If she could stop going "wow this is just like the problems we have on earth!" for like five seconds I feel like the metaphors would land better.

I'm not sure why I've stuck around on this book other than I love the GL mythos. But I just don't see what others find good about this book. I'd much rather have seen Kyle Rayner in this story that another "avatar for the writer" character.

Garbage. Complete and absolute garbage. It's a chore to have to read this book. I wish the "Critics" would post an honest review as this book is still rated way to high.
