Im really looking forward to seeing what else Hill and company can bring to the table because this Detective Comics issue was just incredible. This issue shows us even more vulnerabilities that these characters have, especially Bruce, whose iron fist in leading the Bat Family can be too much and scare people away. The story by Hill revitalizes the canon and gives new looks at these characters and the art by Mondenca is sleek and alluring. Definitely an interesting take on these characters. Read Full Review

Detective Comics has jumped to the top of my pile and the only thing upsetting me about the book is that DC doesn't announce Bryan Hill as it's full-time writer.  Things are still being set up, but the characters are all spot on, Miguel Mendonca and the art team are doing a great job and the story is a great mix of mystery, action and fan service.  If you haven't been reading Detective lately, now is your chance to have some fun!  Highly recommended! Two issues in, Bryan Hill has proven one thing about his five-issue Detective Comics run " it should not be a five issue run. I'm already ready to say this arc has the potential to equal the best of the Tynion run, and I think DC will have a very hard time matching this level of quality when they pick the new permanent creative team. Hill's second issue of Detective Comics is beginning to pull me in. I am intrigued now. I want to know who this villain is. I'm racking my brain trying to put together who it could be. Perhaps we've seen the character before? Or maybe it's a new character? The art so far on this run is amazing. Batman is drawn especially well. I love this arc with Black Lightning and Batman so far, Bruce admitting he can't properly teach them I feel is a great step in the right direction for the rest of the Batfamily to shine individually as their own characters. They do very well in the plot to tell you what type of threat we are dealing with and how skilled they really are. Making Cass Cain sweat is not an easy feat in the slightest, and frankly it excites me for what s next to come in this arc. Read Full Review

Detective Comics #984 continues the build-up to the Outsiders with an interesting new villain and an already tense relationship between Batman and Black Lightning. Mix this with some great artwork, and you have a book well worth recommending. Check it out. Read Full Review

Theartwork from Mendoncva and Egea is very good, but somehow it has a bit of aMarvel feel to it. Not that thats a bad thing, mind you, but it seemed alittle off, for Batman. But more importantly, this may lead to Batmandissolving his team of vigilantes, and them splitting off into anotheriteration of the Outsiders. Could it be? I was worried about this series after Tynion's incredible and epic run...but so far Bryan Hill has a done a good job and I like what he's doing so far with the characters. Let's see what of ride he takes us on

At first I wasn't too sure if bringing Black Lightning into Detective Comics was a good idea - it wouldn' be the first time comics were used to promote certain characters that appear in other mediums, to give them more recognition. But after reading this issue I can gladly admit I was wrong - Jefferson is not only a great addition to the roster, but he steals the show with his viewpoint on Batman working with children and teenagers to fight crime. I really like his teacher approach to the problem, and potential for the future storytelling, his possible relations with other characters from the Bat Family. Can't wait for it.

So far Black Lightning is a very welcome addition to this book. Brian Hill definitely captures his voice very well, as well as the overall team dynamics and other story elements.

We are on the 2nd issue of Bryan Hill's run and things are developing nicely. Black Lightnings incorporation into this comic is very well done. At this point, Bruce knows he does not have the skills required to guide Duke and Cassandra properly. This may be a reason why Cassandra is staying with Dr Leslie Thompkins and being mentored by Barbara (It was Cassandra's idea but she realized she needed help that Bruce couldn't provide). Maybe some of Bruce's failings with Dick, Jason, Tim and Damian have led him to this conclusion. Hopefully it will be explored at a later date because it's an interesting development. At first the villain seemed cliche but he has a weapon that is putting an interesting spin on his character. This villain will be harder to defeat than initially thought. How can you defeat someone who knows everything about you? Once again the artwork was well done in this issue. This story line is interesting because it seems that we are getting some growth out of Bruce. He is realizing his limitations with being a parental figure and is asking for help. more

I didn’t think I’d like Black Lightning coming into the picture, but it works for the context. Seems like maybe setting up an Outsiders deal. I’m not sold on the villain. What exactly are his powers? Do they all come from the mask? Why does he care who Batman hangs out with? Hopefully answers are coming. Also, I wouldn’t mind Batman getting back to going solo. It is outrageous that he has a bunch of kids fighting with him.

Ok this part was better than the previous one, but it's because Cassandra have the spot on her. So Hill make her once more the daughter of Shiva too. Since her return we know for her father but her mother stay a mystery. The New52 Shiva was younger at her first apparence in Nightwing. Later they give her more & more her old appearance in Red Hood & the Outlaws. But she wasn't as good as before in my mind. So I'm happy to see that they once more try to make Shiva been what what I read & loved in the DCU before New52. I was also surprised to see Black Lightning surprise by Batman/Bruce connection. I understand in The Forge that Batman as Outsiders before, so I expected him to in. I think Hill give too much power to his lame vilain. I would r ather loved to see once more the First Victim. Cover - Variant. Very nice but not connected to the story. 1/2 Writing - I find it a little slow sometime. I was disappointed by the cliffhanger. But I will read each part of this arc decide if I stay or not on Detective Comics. 2/3 Arts - I like the layout even if too much panel have no background. 2.5/3 Feeling - Mixed. Still not convinced. I think DC made a mistake by moving Tynion IV. There is a chance I will leave before the 1000. 1/2 more
