I've made no secret of my absolute love for this title, right back from it's Rebirth reboot" to right now. I sing its praises all over social media and on my own blog too. It's hard to find a title that so consistently couples great writing with incredible art. The cliffhanger to "Batmen Eternal" Part Three is yet another jaw-dropping piece of Tynion/Fernndez/Kalisz magic, which left me as on edge as that Eddy Barrows with Adriano Lucas' cover did. There are a lot of great moments in this issue, especially a segment between Tim and Cass. Javier Fernandez, last on Nightwing, is a master of character interaction and posing, and the way he draws some of the scenes this issue (especially Cass' body language) are excellent. Read Full Review

One of the things that scare me in DC comics is back! The OMACS are one of those things that whenever they appear, nothing good comes out of it; like the Terminators in the Terminator movies they come with one purpose" destroy. Where this will lead us we can only imagen, but as I write this review I can only see a dark future for the Bat family, one where they all lose and Brother Eye reigns supreme. Read Full Review

There is certainly a lot going on, and enough to keep you interested, but this one falls a bit dull on the scale for me, besides the ending. I am glad to be back to a more Mystery driven plot, and the art is really well suited toward a gritty Noir style tale, but I just didn't really get hooked into the drama of this issue. It's great that Tynion is taking the time to play out some family drama with Bruce that actually gives an insight into the man's parents other than perpetual victims. The only downside to the issue is Ulysses. While his plan is interesting, his turn towards the end of the issue felt flat. Read Full Review

Tynion's run of Detective is coming to an end and this issue continues putting the pieces together for a big finale.  Eye (!) am excited to see what comes next, especially after the crazy cliffhanger that ended this issue.  I was not a fan of the art and a couple characters go complete wacko, but overall, I liked it. Batman: Detective Comics #978 isnt among the stronger issues of the series, but it is enjoyable nonetheless. Omacs return and the uneasy alliance being forced between Batman and the Colony set up for a promising finale from Tynions Detective Comic series. This one still earns a recommendation. Check it out. Tynion continues his swan song for Detective Comics, and I wish I could say that I enjoyed the issue more than I did. There are fundamental problems that have existed in this book for a majority of it's run, and they appear here as well. If you're able to look past questionable characterization and logic, then you might find something worthwhile. Unfortunately, the more I dissected scenes and moments, the more glaring and problematic they became. While others may be able to look past this, I cannot. But hey, at least we still have Tynion's "Rise of the Batmen" arc" That was good, right? Read Full Review

Once more a amazing issue from Tynion IV. That may be close to a transitional issue, it's a very intelligent one. I like Batman confronting this soon with Kate & his father but not for a fight. I always happy to see Cassy in there, but I hope she recover soon, because a sad Cassie isn't one I like. Azrael & Batwing are so screwed (Good for them, traitor ! ^^ ) And I didn't see Ulysse taking this name - The general (Ring a bell as a Superman Foes in the 90's) I surely will miss Tynion IV team management ! Cover - I take the variant. Not related but very nice ! 1/2 Writing - I would love to see him more on the title, but this is a hell of goodbye ! 3/3 Arts - As always the arts is really strong ... Some minor hiccup but I forgive him e asily. 3/3 Sentiments - The strong title of Rebirth and DC change the team. A real mystery to me ! 2/2 more

I love it when a plan comes together! Here we get to see an escalation of Ulysses' plan. And it's not good for the Bat family. I'm curious to read that happens next, especially with the return of some older DC universe concepts. What really sells this issue, though, is the art by Javier Fernandez and colors by John Kalisz. There is one page with Batman climbing stairs up to Kane Manor that is just classic shadowy Batman imagery! Detective Comics has had some of the most consistently good storytelling and art since Rebirth. Props to Tynion and co.

This is for sure a stand out issue for sure. From the fantastic art to the eye bulging cliffhanger, picking #978 up is a great idea. I enjoyed how the relationship between Batman and his former partner is written and played out. We see that even though Tim has served independently before and with great success, Bruce still has to remind him to slow down and look at the little strings that unravel the whole quilt. I would like to see Damien and Dick involved a bit more though (I may regret the Damien wish though). All and all, solid book and a good read.

This had some real surprises and intense moments. Cool to see things set up from the start of Detective, and all throughout the run, come into play this far down the line.

Welcome to the Oblivion Bar where the first round is on me and the pretzels are free! Be warned: like the pickled eggs at the bar, this issue is going to get SPOILED rotten. We open with Bruce and Tim taking a look-see at the two Brother Eye infected colony troops, keeping in mind they don’t know that brother eye took them over yet. Bruce goes back to the old Kain Family homestead to confront Kate and her pops. They say that they had nothing to do with it. Meanwhile at the batcave, Tim finally connects the dots to Ulysesses and Brother Eye.....BUT... it’s too late! OMAC is BACK! OMAC shows up through nanotech entering people’s bodies including Tim, which is a great throwback to Infinite Crisis! Ulysesses gets a make over an d becomes the new General and we leave Cass to fight off like 20ish OMAC’s in the batcave, which shouldn’t be a problem for her if we hold true to Tynion’s continuity. Remember when she took down the entire league of assassins almost totally alone? I think she’ll be fine. This issue wasn’t as good as the prior to but it was still pretty great. Ending with Tim turning into an OMAC is awesome! I just hope he actually stays that way for a bit and it wasn’t just a cliffhanger that will be nothing at the end of the story. But I’m the king or wishful thinking... or was that Milli Vanilli? I like the new look for Ulysess BUT I still have a hard time taking him seriously since he was a villain wearing Batman sweats, Batman socks, and a Batman shirt. Heck, he dresses like me on a Thursday night getting ready for bed. How could you take me seriously wearing that while I threatened you with evil nanotechnology? Pick it up and enjoy the arc. It really is pretty cool. Last two or three issues didn't impress me that much, and I've felt the Action Comics' action significantly slowed down after Clayface's death, to the point series has become a drag. I'm pleased to say this week's issue brought back proper tension, drama and mystery I've missed so much. It won't make history, but sure was fun to read, and I the cliffhanger leaves you wanting more, here and now.

I find this book to be getting less interesting/compelling as the weeks go by. Also, I very much disliked the art. I'll probably take a break from this one for a while.
