Detective Comics #1078 is a beautifully written, and even at times poetic, chapter in this “Outlaw” intermission. The plot gets kicked into high gear as Catwoman launches her plan to rescue Batman from the clutches of the Orghams, and seeing its realization is a delight. The art and action blend into a gripping sequence that keeps the reader eager to know what will happen next. The action gives each of the characters a chance to shine, and Watters' backup continues to shed light on the supporting cast. Read Full Review

This series has become unmissable with the addition of Alexander's artwork. The brilliance of the Gothic tone is fully realized, and the script supports it in full. This is an action oriented issue and JSA proves he can do that just as well as he can paint moody shadows and mysterious buildings. The backup story features a character i dont know well because I dont read catwoman, but its a pretty neat story with an interesting moral declaration for its protagonist. A bang for your buck each issue.

Ram V's Detective Comics run has been a polarizing one, with some praising the writer’s slow-burn, operatic approach and others finding it too meandering and never reaching the climactic heights of past runs. Detective Comics #1078 is likely to not change anyone’s minds with the issue heavily focused on exposition as Catwoman’s plan to save Batman unfolds. On the one hand, the plot moves forward, with Catwoman and her hand-picked team enacting their daring rescue of Batman from the Orghams. It's a suspenseful sequence that sees Selina Kyle using all of her cunning and skill to infiltrate the Orgham’s inner circle, Cassandra Cain displaying the severity of her raw fighting, Mr. Freeze providing pragmatic rationale for his actions , and Azrael pontificating in all his religious grandeur. Major accolades go to V’s writing and Jason Shawn Alexander’s art for building palpable tension throughout the entire sequence. Alexander deserves specific applause for the variety of visual representation used for each individual character above. His use of shadows and darkness ties them all together and is particularly effective in creating a sense of danger and despair. However, the issue is also bogged down by a lot of exposition, as V uses Selina’s inner dialogue to equate their plan with a game of poker . This exposition adds necessary context to the story, but it slows the pace down considerably and the payoff is a predictable cliffhanger. Overall, Detective Comics #1078 is a mixed bag. It's a step forward for the series in terms of plot progression, but it's also hampered by its heavy reliance on explanation. Fans of V's slow-burn approach will likely enjoy this issue, but those looking for more action will likely continue to be disappointed. more

The lead story continues with another solid suspense foray as Catwoman puts her plan into action to save Batman. The back-up story, however, was a miss this issue. At least Ram V redeems Catwoman after the dreadful Gotham War fiasco!

The narrative is very slow, it's something that won't really change, it depends on each person's taste. It's gratifying to have such well-written characters in crime comics, Cass, Gordon, Selina... incredible characters. And, especially Catwoman, I couldn't even remember the last time she appeared in Tec, so having a character so important to the Batman mythos back in the game is something worth seeing.

Somehow worse than the previous two issues even though those were set-up issues. The backup story sucks. Stop bringing in Eiko and other garbage from her terrible New 52 run. There is only one Catwoman and it's Selina.
