Like the previous two issues in Mariko Tamaki's run, Detective Comics #1036 blends a great mystery with good characterization and exciting art. The creative team make it look easy, but it has to be anything but. It relies on great storytelling as opposed to an event gimmick. Don't pass this one up, especially for fans of the Huntress. Tamaki's use of Bruce Wayne alongside Batman has been a welcomed change to Batman comics. Detective Comics' connection to the main Batman book has also continued to bring the universe together. Now that Huntress has been fully integrated into the main story, it can only mean some fun adventures between her and Batman for the remainder of the arc. The writing is an improvement over last month, although some plot beats are still a bit too convenient, as if the writer is taking the easy way out, and some of the dialogue still sounds unnatural and clunky. The art, however, from Mora, Henry and Bellaire, is excellent. Read Full Review

This issue of Detective Comics takes a considerable nosedive as Mariko Tamaki adds a bunch of swerves in what was already becoming a convoluted story.  Misdirections and forced reveals have taken the place of detective work, and while this book continues to look great, it needs more focus as we advance. An excellent single issue. Dan Mora gets a chance to portray horror, action, and his beautiful human characters as Tamaki adds another chapter to her twisting, exciting story for Bruce Wayne. Evokes the feeling of the old Grant/Breyfogle Batman run with classic characters and fun team-ups that make this my primary Batman series.

Currently my favourite Batman book. It's a good old-fashioned murder mystery with good art. I actually get attached to the victims, them being Bruce's new neighbours and all. Tamaki did a very good job of making me care about them even with the limited amount of pages since their introduciton. The Huntress backup is also very good. Emotional, gripping yet not dour.

A pretty well done issue. Good storytelling and art. This is the first time I've seen Lady Clayface in ages, so that was interesting. Though like everything in DC this series must also be tied in to the latest "Big event," but it's doing well trying to tell its own story too. A murder mystery is a fitting plot since this is Detective Comics. But I remember when Batman solved the plot and caught the bad guy in a single issue. These days it takes 6 or more. Mr. Worth is slowly developing as an unlikable character reminiscent of the Kingpin. He obviously uses his power to intimidate and get what he wants. It is unfortunate his daughter died and one can understand his grief, but he seems to care nothing about who gets hurt in his quest for ven geance.So he shows promise as a villain. It's been a while since we've seen a mustachioed bad guy who's so dangerous and powerful physically and financially. Kinda gives that classic villain feel. I'm looking forward to the series going bi-weekly again so I can see this story develop quicker. Though the atrocious price does put a bigger gap in my wallet. I must be enjoying it though or I wouldn't pay for it (And I'm still complaining even though my supplier gives me a 35% discount). more

Solid read. Even if I dislike Clayface stories, the writing and art are good enough that I enjoyed it despite that story element. Love the development of Mr. Worth so far; seems to have the potential to become a classic bat villain over time, between his imposing physical stature, easy rage, political pull, and Wayne-level wealth.

It appears Tamaki is planning something huge and different, I like that. I also like her takes on Huntress and Lady Clayface. Saddly Mora and Bellaire are not as good as in the previous issues. But that'll probably change.

In usual Tamaki fashion the story is all over the place, the "mystery" is getting dumber and dumber, I could also do without the second story that doesn't add much.

Oh, that I have no doubt of, twitter is full of people off their meds that belong in a mental illness facility. But linking Bruce Wayne to Memorial Day and hating him for that is crazy even for those lunatics. I don't understand exactly what you're asking. Are you asking if Bruce and Dick were gay? Because that's certainly not true. Are you asking if Wertham was right about that? I'd say he went a little too far but his analysis had a smidge of truth, comics do a lot of propaganda, they did back in the day and they do it even now. A lot of comics have a very left-leaning view, youth in US is very lefty, now I don't know how many young people read comics but I'd say there is a overlap between the two.

All in all, my advice to you would be to stay off twitter as much as you can, there's waaaay too much lunacy out there. And you're not going to come to an understanding with them because they're an echo-chamber, they just hate outside opinions. And, usually, report people that contradict them until they've "won". So really, stay off that platform, there are better ways of wasting your time than that. :))

You have said it @Comics Code Authorities and I swear that despite my displeasure I have tried to put a grain of sand with online and physical purchases, because each comic that I evaluate is bought (digitally) between friends and those I like, I buy them physically, but it was redeemed. I just hope that the publisher will soon pass its crisis and give us a better quality again.

I love this site, not one honest critic in the critic review section....Anyway, does anyone remember that they want to read a book about a millionaire playboy who fights crime? Apparently Tamaki has forgot this and writes her story as far away from what brought people to the book in the 1st place. JUST give Bruce Wayne his fortune back and tell interesting stories with out the guilt ridden social commentary. Much like DC comics this series is being killed slowly. Just look at the sales. She's a Hack of a writer...Do yourself a favour and drop this title from your pull list.
