Deathstroke #44

This was a great read and I definitely can't wait for the next issue. The end of Slade Wilson had a wider effect of the metahuman community than what I initially expected. Rose Wilson is taking the loss of her father especially rough by beating up every Deathstroke cosplayer she comes across in Gotham City. Feeling disrespected by the people by them wearing his image, she tears into the crowd, beating them all and making them disperse. With Deathstroke's contracts up in the air, Priest leaves wondering if Rose will take up her father's path. It seems by the end of the issue she will, as she accepts a contract! The villain slant to Funeral for a Friend marked another outstanding issue for Deathstroke. Next issue teases the kickoff of a new arc similar to one that played out in Batman. Im interested to see where Priest takes it, but it certainly wont be boring. Read Full Review

Deathstroke #44is a borderline perfect issue. The script is fun in a morose sort of way and the art is excellent. And while this issue was fantastic, it'sDeathstroke #45 that has me excited, as this issue's ending sets up what should be an interesting story concerning Deathstroke's legacy. The funeral that everyone's been waiting for!  Well, maybe not, but we get a hell of a funeral here and some amazing art, but this issue felt really forced in some aspects to get what it needed to do done and even showed off characters that have died previously in other runs.  It's odd, but there's some decent stuff here overall, I just wish it came together better in the end. I love how this issue opens referencing one of the best moments of this run. The whole funeral was really well done in my opinion. The character that come back, what some of them say, it was really satisfaing. The set up for Joey and Rose's path is pretty cool as well. Unfortunately i really dont care about the legion of doom stuff here. Still, solid start.

This makes me want to read Priest's Deathstroke run. He nailed all of the characters and how they interact with each other. I especially enjoyed Doctor Light, Sinestro, and Brainiac's dialogue throughout the issue.

He's really dead, as far as we know, and yeah, it's looking like his daughter might replace him. Who knows though? Could always be a trick.

Great issue except confused on the whole Superman part of the story and the Jericho part. Other than that, good dialogue and art was about a 8.5/10.

Deathstroke's comics were never easy reads - ever since Priest began writing the series, its plot required attention from the reader to be understood. This issue pushes this requirement forward - not only you need to understand and remember the entire Rebirth run of Slade's adventures, you also need to know a thing or two about his relationship with Teen Titans, know what's the inner conflict the team is strugling with, be familiar with the Legion of Doom and Justice League comics, oh, and know the background of Year of the Villain. That's a surprising amount of knowledge you should possess if you want to fully understand what's happening here, even if on the outside, at first glance, things happening look pretty simple. I mean, how complex could a funeral be? I have mixed feelings about this one. I think Priest may have been a bit too ambitious, squeezing too many things and references in this small comic. That's definitely something for dedicated fans of Slade - those who've been following him since #1 and also are familiar with recent big events within the DC Universe. more
