The series continues to be action-packed and full of suspense as well as thrills and clever twists that keep readers excited and on their toes. BATMAN: THE KNIGHT continues to be a must-read for any and all BATMAN fans and I highly recommend picking this issue up as well as the series. Nevertheless, this isnt the issue to hop on board. There is tons of background information that Zdarsky assumes youve been privy to, which isnt a bad thing. This series has never been less than good, and in recent months has been truly excellent. Batman: The Knight #8 has turned the “friend turned foe” trope on its head and done something surprising with it. It's rare for a comic to catch me off guard, or for a story to deliver something I didn't see coming. The breadcrumbs and clues in this series are as masterfully crafted as the misdirection and red herrings. Batman: The Knight #8 gets far too distracted by all of the disparate plot elements it wants to introduce, causing it to lose focus on Bruce's character development which is what the story was supposed to be about. Anton's return feels like an intrusion as Bruce is forced to constantly think about what he's doing. The story is as well illustrated as always and the brief moments we get to see Bruce grow into Batman are well done, but that is quickly derailed by the introduction of a series main villain that feels unnecessary. Some twists here I'm not sure entirely work, but the artwork and this deconstruction of Batman's origin myth still has it's strengths. We are about to head into more familiar ground.
