Batman takes on a new partner, and it's...the Penguin? After rejecting Bane's crime-boss co-op, Cobblepot finds himself in the crosshairs of some very teed-off villains. The feathered felon turns to his old foe to snitch on Bane's scheme, but has to prove his intentions to avoid a Bat-beatdown. Along the way, this Gotham odd couple begins to bond-could there be a new bird joining the Bat-Family? Not if Bane has anything to say about it...

Batman #60 is a great read and it's clear that Bane's master plan is slowly coming together! There's even an unexpected appearance by someone whom Bruce didn't expect to see at all! And even I must admit I was shocked! However I'm eager to see the further relationship between Batman and Gordon. With Batman's actions throughout Arkham and Gotham in these last few issues, one of Batman's best allies may be gone for good. I'm thinking that this was probably essential to Bane's plan–and I can't wait to see what comes from it. Read Full Review

The art by Janin and Fornes is very good. I like Fornes. He has a David Mazzucchelli style to his art. I'm already dying for the next issue. This is the normal pace for me now reading this comic and it's a great thing. Read Full Review

This was a shocking but strong end to an emotional mini arc. Tom King stated the arc following the harrowing saga of The Tyrant Wing is named Knightmares that will scrape at the soul of Batman. King has been building up this story of the Caped Crusader for dozens of issues and honestly, the script combined with the art makes me happy to be along for the ride no matter what rabbit hole it travels down to in the end. King has steeped the narrative deep in mystery, and although the fact Batman is seemingly no closer than he was five issues ago to making any headway into said mystery is sure to ruffle feathers, the ride remains undeniably enticing. Bring on the next installment. Read Full Review

What is a man's breaking point? Creators over the years have examined the Dark Knight and questioned what his breaking point is, with King and the whole team on Batman perhaps being the most surgical and methodical. However, before Bruce can catch his breath from the threat of one assault, another is thrown at his feet from left field. While we don't know if the Caped Crusader will have a point of no return, it's certainly been gripping watching what King and company lob at Batman along the way. Read Full Review

I never would have predicted that this issue would end on the note that it does. As interesting as the Bane build up has been throughout these issues, the reveal at the end of this issue changes everything and King has done an amazing job of throwing in something completely unexpected. The storytelling technique of splitting the issue into thirds shows how comfortable King is with his writing. While King can definitely write interesting, sympathetic characters, the problem is how he writes Batman. If it is difficult to root for the hero of the story, then the overall comic becomes harder to enjoy. Read Full Review

    Weird Science - Jim Werner

    Dec 05, 2018

Tom King continues giving readers a very unlikeable Batman and tops that off by ruining the Penguin...for me at least.  There is also a bit of revisionist history, a joke that needs to be retired and all the other nonsense that readers of this book either love or hate.  It's beyond me why and how this keeps going on, but maybe it's just because I don't fill in the blanks the same way as others are filling them in.  I will just blame myself from now on since I seem to be the only one missing out.
