the only way i'd be able to buy into Batman throwing such a violent tantrum, would be if it were live action, and if Tommy Wiseau was playing Batman. :P

Dec 06, 2018Batman #60 is a great read and it's clear that Bane's master plan is slowly coming together! There's even an unexpected appearance by someone whom Bruce didn't expect to see at all! And even I must admit I was shocked! However I'm eager to see the further relationship between Batman and Gordon. With Batman's actions throughout Arkham and Gotham in these last few issues, one of Batman's best allies may be gone for good. I'm thinking that this was probably essential to Bane's plan–and I can't wait to see what comes from it. Read Full Review

Dec 05, 2018This was a shocking but strong end to an emotional mini arc. Tom King stated the arc following the harrowing saga of The Tyrant Wing is named Knightmares that will scrape at the soul of Batman. Dec 09, 2018What is a man's breaking point? Creators over the years have examined the Dark Knight and questioned what his breaking point is, with King and the whole team on Batman perhaps being the most surgical and methodical. However, before Bruce can catch his breath from the threat of one assault, another is thrown at his feet from left field. While we don't know if the Caped Crusader will have a point of no return, it's certainly been gripping watching what King and company lob at Batman along the way. Read Full Review

WOW. To those that are disappointed that Batman's acting 'out of character,' I'm here to tell you that's what often happens when someone is brutally traumatized, particularly when it happens over and over. Of course Batman isn't himself. That's the point. On a personal note, I'm relating to this run as I am partly because after 10 years of chronic illness (physiological and mental), I'm not at all myself either. I'm not who I was. To depict me as if I were would be to get me completely wrong. I think some people that have been through intense trauma over and over again and clearly have PTSD as a result of it may identify with King's Batman. That's what's happening with me. It's at least equally likely folks with similar difficulties w on't identify. Ever person's experience of trauma is different. I can only speak for my own and how it informs my appreciation of this series. For those of us on the edge of our seats re: the final panel of #50 and all the promise that held, this is an incredible issue. If you just dislike King's writing probably nothing is going to change that. Folks are dug in, one way or the other, it seems. If you have any appreciation for his Batman run you're likely to find this issue to be a jaw dropper. I certainly did. Even two weeks feels like way too long to wait for the next issue. more

Stellar bounce back to the better days of this Batman run. Rather than focusing on one punch, or one poem, we get another nicely paced and intriguing issue filled with great art. The new paper stock bleeds with the vibrant color from Mrs. Bellaire, whether the line work is by Janin or Fornes. And speaking of the Fornes art, it was a good visual clue to distinguish between Batman's rage quest and the more plot oriented bits of story drawn by Janin. Faith restored for now...Wak!

I really liked the last two issues of Batman. It feels like the issues are finally picking up steam. Bane is becoming more dangerous with each passing issue and Batman is on the cusp of a complete mental breakdown. It legitimately feels like Batman is going to kill someone if one more thing happens in his life. In the words of the Joker "All it takes is one bad day to reduce the sanest man alive to lunacy." The exchange between Penguin and Alfred was really well done. The fact that Penguin almost had Alfred murdered in issue # 58 is not lost on me. The dialog was so good that I ALMOST felt bad for Penguin; however he's done too much to have my sympathy. "Live by the sword, die by the sword." This issue did a good job showing the fracture in Commissioner Gordon and Batman's relationship. This was my favorite part of the issue. Commissioner Gordon, like Alfred, has always been a constant presence in Batman's life. To see Gordon lose trust in Batman is a testament to how far Bruce has fallen. I personally think there is more than meets the eye with Gordon, but we'll have to wait and see what happens next. Over 95% of the art in this issue was very well done. Unfortunately Batman was the 5% that I didn't like, which is a problem in a Batman comic. He looked more like Batman 66 than the Rebirth Batman we are used to. The ending was great and makes me excited for the next issue. more

THE GOOD: -This was my favorite issue of this series in a while. I'm looking forward to "Knightmares," whatever that is. -Boy, does Tom King love to run simultaneous stories using the technique of juxtaposition. I really liked the juxtaposition in this issue however. I do wish they could get three artists instead of two though. One for Gordon, another for Batman, and another for Alfred and Penguin. -This issue was a perfect type of downward spiral for the plot in my opinion. Batman reaches his worst point yet. For once, I wasn't super pissed that he was throwing all those tantrums. Instead, I felt like I could appreciate the darker turn this series is taking and how its changing Batman into someone we haven't seen before. I do st ill understand what people have been saying about his acting out being extremely unusual considering previous Batman runs and stories, but I prefer to look at it in the context of King's run, when yes, after all that's happened in a domino effect, it makes sense for Batman to be so cruel. That's just me, everyone has a perfectly justifiable reason for hating Batman in this issue. My opinion is a strange creature. -I loved the tangible drama in this issue. As the issue moves on, things escalate in a really great way. -Once again, King knocks the writing for Penguin out of the park. -Despite my issues with that story, Alfred feeding Penguin fish was simultaneously disturbing and funny, an effect I can't decide if I love or hate. -Apparently my strange suspicion about Penny paid off. See my review for last issue. I actually really liked that reveal and the subtlety used to reveal that Penny was a… well you'll just have to read the issue. It is disgusting, but well-done and affectively tragic. -The buildup to !SPOILERS! arrival was awesome in my opinion. -Gordon destroying the Bat symbol was an epic and cinematic piece of the climax, and might be my second favorite part of the issue. -What's your favorite?" one might ask. Well, it's the end. The buildup and tone was pitch perfect, And that last page is one I'd want hanging on my wall, word bubble and all. So good and dramatic. THE BAD: -I wasn't a fan of the reciting poetry. I preferred the Gordon and Batman stories. Penguin and Alfred's wasn't as good, and cold have been shorter, -Also, why can't Penguin take off the blindfold? Were his arms incapacitated? I don't know why, that part really bothered me. more

"I AM YOUR FATHER" Jokes aside, it was a good issue. Batman is out of control and starts beating everyone in search of the truth. while Alfred and Penguin have an interesting conversation that shows once again the human side of Penguin. Best part of the issue was the reveal at the end. I found it to be really interesting and I'm very intrigued to see where this is going.

Solid cliffhanger by King. Overall this was a well paced issue and I enjoyed Penguin's interactions with Alfred as well as Batman attempting to hunt down multiple criminals to find out the conspiracy with Bane. I understand that people have a certain distaste with this run but I genuinely love this like the Scott Snyder/Greg Capullo run.

Fornes' art was a delight in that it was reminiscent of Year 100, and Janin's strengths were once again given the spotlight in facial expression/close-up angles. I enjoyed seeing that the nursery rhyme came to take on a greater meaning as the arc progressed instead of just being fake-deep.

Not an amazing issue or anything but I felt it was a solid evolution of the character. The story starts to acknowledge that Batman has been acting so callous and out of character. People are starting to realize that he isn't quite right. King has created this development on purpose as part of this arc, he is just doing so very slowly. In my opinion this is an interesting step for the character and it will be interesting to see how he finds his way back. Also, the cliffhanger at the end was good. Seriously, though, what is it with superheroes and their dads nowadays. First Superman's dad (Mr.Oz) hates humanities guts, now Flashpoint Thomas Wayne seems to hate Batman even more.

It's been a while since I reviewed a Tom King Batman Book. Mainly because my review schedule is trash. It's also been because Tom King's star has fallen dramatically for me in 2019. I'll still cover the series but I'm not as enthusiastic as I was when the series first started. This issue finishes the "Penguin" non-team-up. The main plot covers Batman brutalizing criminals recently released from Arkham. He's doing this in order to collaborate Penguin's story that Bane has secretly taken over Arkham. The rest of the book follows Commissioner Gordon's reaction to the trail of bodies Batman is leaving in his wake. The comic also has interludes featuring Penguin and Alfred. In a vacuum, the book isn't terrible. It covers a lot of gro und and the art from Mikel Janin & Jorge Fornes contrast nicely. I'm not sure why the book needed to feature two different art styles but it doesn't hurt the narrative. The connecting tissue between artists is Jordie Bellaire who does an amazing job keeping the linework consistent throughout the book. My problem is that tonally this book is somewhat boring, especially considering my recent reviews. My last reviews have covered House of X, TMNT, Ninja-K. Comparatively, Tom King's Batman is plodding along at a snail's pace. There is a lot of action here but it's not exciting and the scenes with penguin are just weird. Why is Alfred feeding Penguin sardines by hand? The cliffhanger hints at something big and the arc started out strong but ultimately feels like a placeholder for more exciting stories to come. There are better Batman stories on the shelves right now. Batman: Curse of the White Night, Batman: Last Knight on Earth run circles around this series and it's sad because of this is technically the flagship title. more

With this issue I don’t know. There were good things, but also real bad things happening in this issue. The good one is, we finally get an explanation for who Penny was& it’s hilarious. As odd as it sounds, but Penguin marrying a real penguin makes a lot more sense for his character than a real woman would. At least if we are talking functional relationships. However didn’t know Oswald is that into animals, if you know what I mean ;) ( poor Penny btw.) As for the bad things, I don’t buy it for one second, that Gordon would give up on Batman so fast as he did here. We are talking about the guy, who stood by Batmans side, even when he was under murder suspicion, the guy, who comforted him, even so he just saw Batman brutally beating up one of his villains. It appears cheap. And speaking of it, we also finally get to know what happened to KGBeast& it doesn’t make Bruce look any better. Considering the fact, that all he was doing this issue was beating up people to get his information, but ignored the one man (KGBeast), who could tell him everything due to ego/ emotions, just seems very out of character for Batman. I don’t buy it, that Bruce would get so emotional to make all these mistakes, even if something bad happened to him. In many stories we could see, that he never betrays his crusade for emotions, he trained years to be able to put his feelings aside. But that’s nothing compared to the end: it really makes zero sense for Thomas Wayne to show up. It’s impossible& therefore looks like cheap drama again. I realize we all have different taste& I respect different opinions, but with all these flaws& contuinity errors, I really keep wondering, how people can love Kings writing. I personally think his entire Batman run would work better as an Elseworld& it would also make me enjoy his writing more. more

ohhaimark - Dec 8, 2018Wow! I actually decided to start reading Tom King's Batman as an Elseworld comic, and what do you know, I liked it a lot better. "My opinion is a strange and irrational beast," as stated in my review. You have a great opinion on this issue however. It's a shame DC doesn't just pull this series out of continuity for real, however.
myconius - Dec 9, 2018ohhaimark - there are MUCH better Elseworlds Batman stories out there than this. ;)
Darkseid24 - Dec 9, 2018@ohhaimark Yeah I should read this as an Elseworld, but I just can’t lol @myconius That’s True though.
Superheroes for Hire - Dec 16, 2018At least we got plot development and better writing in general this issue. I went from 2/10 with KGBeast back to 9/10 this issue. It's when King gets mired in nonsense and and self indulgence that the other flaws outright ruin the book for me. And hey, at least we got 5 fights in one issue, not one fight in 5 issues, am I right?
Superheroes for Hire - Dec 16, 2018And yes, comics are much more enjoyable when you read them like their own "elseworld" stories. King's Batman is not so different as to be unrecognizable. His problem is he gets lost in the feelings and the metatextual qualities of "what it means to be Batman" that he loses air sight of telling an actual Batman story sometimes.
Darkseid24 - Dec 18, 2018Yes, but if a writer writes canon stories he should be able to write stories, that don’t contradict everything else. If he can’t do that, he should stick to Elseworlds. The Penguin story was better than the one with KGBeast, I agree, but I don’t think it was awesome or great.

Why am I still reading this? It's not as cringe-inducing as the previous issue but the characterization of everyone is still completely off. King's prose is your standard philosophical driven writing which can be interesting if it was integrated into a cogent plot like it was in Vision or Mister Miracle. The final page reveal was intriguing but King has let me down too many times before to have me excited to where this is going. Janin art has grown stale on me whereas Jorge Fornes art was a nice breath of fresh air. I would love to see Fornes return for some more Batman work in the future. Overall, I know King has said this is a long haul but I expected to enjoy the journey, much like I do when other writers write huge interconnected runs. more

More expository filler from King, this time even worse than usual, with uneven art - half really beautiful, half looking like a cheap indie work made by an intern. It's really underwhelming, even for King's recent standards. Penguin's story is this issue's highlight, the same way I found it the most relatble and entertaining element of last comic's. That being said, however, while a highlight, it still stretches a bit too much, and could have been told faster. I could definitely see this and the last issue being combined into just one, which would be a far better alternative. Really, it's like Metallica's Load and Reload albums - filler stretched into two discs with few better moments (albeit still pretty mediocre compared to what they m ade in the 80's), that could have worked as a single LP. You're no Alan Moore, Tom King, and your story is nowhere near as complex as some of Moore's works (most notably Watchmen or V for Vendetta) which genuinely require tons of exposition and explaining to be understood. Cut it, because this incompetent deconstructionism and pseudo intellectualism hurt the series. more

"Who are you?" Well, Batman still acts like a d-bag, who traded imposing presence for childish tantrums and still beats criminals senselessly. But I think there is a far more important question to be asked here. Why is Alfred FEEDING Penguin? WHY? That scene makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and is dumb. His hands are free, he can hold the plate himself. By the way, his hands are free, what's going to stop him from lifting up that blindfold and taking a peek around the Batcave or at the face of his keeper who shares his fondness for poetry. I don't mind poetry much, but when it's supplementing dialogue third issue in a row I'm getting a bit annoyed. Beast is alive. That's good. I was hoping that Bruce knew something that we d idn't and didn't just leave him to die there. And it seems commissioner Gordon doesn't remember or cares about all the times he and Batman stood between people of Gotham and all the horrors plaguing the city. He seemingly gives up on Batman. The thing that interests me, is why Thomas Wayne is on board with destroying his alternate reality son's life? In the Button, he seemed genuinely interested in Bruce's happiness. Why the sudden change of heart? Please, Mistah King, have a good answer for that, not some bonkers excuse for a reason. Why was Alfred feeding him? Why? This review was not supposed to be this long. more

Synthozoid - Dec 6, 2018dear gentle reader, unfortunately I disagree with your evaluation of Batman 60, but you can enjoy whatever you like
Superheroes for Hire - Dec 16, 2018One hint for a happier life, don't question comic book logic. Just marvel at the fact that Alfred is talking poetry with Penguin, while feeding Penguin like an actual penguin. If your friends start feeding each other sardines while blindfolded, well that would be cause for actual concern.
egonnn244 - Dec 16, 2018Comic book logic is one thing. Which is why I don't have a problem with flying aliens or the fact that guy bit by a spider suddenly walks on walls or with detective monkeys. But sometimes I get things so ridicules like that feeding where my suspension of disbelief can't take it.

Penguin stuff was fine. But rest of it? Bruce just keeps beating up villains, ask League for assistance! (This is just an aside and won't affect the issue's score, but can we please get better covers on this series? It's Batman. Why are the covers so lazy?) This issue and its quality is kind of dependent on whether you've felt that this all has been earned. And I don't. Batman going around beating people to find out about Bane isn't exactly something he's never done before. So I don't see why that is what makes Gordon give up on Batman. Maybe it's that Gordon thinks Batman has lost it. But, if that's the case, is he going to stop at breaking the Batsymbol? That doesn't solve the problem of Batman at all. And why did he use this officer's valuable, retirement bat to do it? I mean, there's the symbolism of the bat destroying the bat, because Batman is being self destructive. I get it. But why make Gordon a dick like that? Just make it a normal bat, not someone's retirement. The penguin stuff is more than a little dumb. First of all, it implies Penguin is into bestiality... Which is not a place I'd ever want that character to go. Why is Penguin blindfolded? He wasn't bound, he could've just taken it off. I guess it was a sign of good faith. But why would he leave it on as soon as the spooky voice from beyond started talking to him? And why did Alfred have to feed Penguin? He, again, wasn't bound. It was probably for the imagery, but with a slight change to the script, it wouldn't have looked dumb on Alfred's part. Which is why I always get the feeling that the writer doesn't think this series through as much as his fanboys would tell you. (Tom King himself is actually pretty humble most of the time.) As for the end, I'm not at all on board with Thomas Batman working against his own son. There's not much reasoning that I'll accept for that. But maybe King will pull something good out. If the next issue is nothing but a fight scene, I may enjoy it on the spectacle alone if I turn my brain off. So here's hoping... more

More of the same. Batman using violence instead of brains. Beating ex-Arkham prisoners, who back up Bane’s story. Penguin is being guarded by Alfred. They fill up space talking poems. Commissioner Gordon is through with Batman and we learn KGBeast is alive because he was under watch by Russian officials. Story ends with Alternate Batman (Thomas Wayne, I think) clocking Bruce in the Batcave. That last page is the only page that matters. The whole issue is just a slight variance of last issue. Nothing happens. Decompressed storytelling at its worst. Mixed artists, so the look isn’t even consistent. Just bleh issue. Or I could be wrong.

This issue was beyond stupid. Batman is the world's worst detective and now just goes around beating on people. King realized how pissed off people were about how he had Batman kill the Beast so he changed that. The shit with the Penguin was ridiculous. So Alfred is watching Penguin in a cage, that is big enough for him to lean out but for some reason has to open the door and hand feed him. What the hell? Also, Alfred is sitting there talking to Penguin with nothing but a blindfold on to keep him from seeing his face. What prevented him from lifting it up? And apparently, Penny IS a penguin? Seriously? So he married a damn bird? How was Penny's father looking for her if he's a bird? And the shocking ending has Bruce's dad knocki ng him out. The same dad who was willing to watch his world end to save his son is now working with his enemy to make his life miserable. Good God, get King off this book. This title just get's dumber and dumber. more

Æther - Dec 12, 2018That's just an assumption you're making about Beast. It was just a courtesy to open the door to help feed Penguin, made it less awkward for both of them. It's so not a big deal, I had many money on Alfred anyways... I didnt see any umbrella around. As for the Blindfold... well it is Batmans. It was all serving to help us gain trust in Penguin, I thought King was gonna trick us for sure, so I was pleasantly surprised.
Æther - Dec 12, 2018Psh, ofcourse the Penguin loves a Penguin, that was a no brainer, Penguins are also very family oriented. Lastly you dont even know why Bruce's father is really there, but you just assume its silly... it could be something as simple as Psyco Pirate helping control him, Its probably something else, but that's just one example. Who knows what's going on with that yet. Your fastidious outlook is overwhelmingly pessimistic.
Æther - Dec 12, 2018Love how the art reminds me of the very first Batman comics where Batman was snapping criminal necks and dropping them off buildings also. Very Pre-Robin feeling Batman.

WOW was this BAD!! i’m unconvinced of any of this. it all just feels so forced and very very silly. (((((spoilers))))) Gordon talks like an idiot. “Pat, can you get Harvey in here? i want to talk the Freeze case. recent one please. the one where Batman just kept hitting him.†who talks like this? meanwhile on a rooftop, Batman idiotically yells questions at Maxie Zeus while repeatedly punching him in the face. what was Maxie Zeus doing on that rooftop anyway? that’s not his usual M.O. 2 issues ago Penguin’s men were about to shoot Alfred. wouldn’t Penguin wonder why this would somehow affect Batman? Penguin is blindfolded and caged with Alfred. he can’t just put two and two together? he can’t just lift his bl indfold? and why is Alfred sitting conversing poetry with him? and Batman is such an idiot. he was one step behind the Feds. the Feds had tracked down KGBeast long before Batman even showed up. but instead of acting, the Feds set up surveillance as KGBeast killed his Father, and continued to do nothing as Batman and Beast fought to the death. they didn't even doing anything as Beast was about to kill Batman, nor after Batman broke KGBeast’s neck and left him for dead. this whole damned scenario is just so idiotic! Batman continues to torture & terrorize… (i mean) continues to interrogate as he throws Firefly out a window without his jet pack. then a whole 9 grid page is wasted on Batman catching Firefly with his grapple-gun and pulling him back up. Batman then continues to terrorize Firefly. meanwhile Alfred enjoys some tea with Penguin. elsewhere, Gordon gets reports of Batman punching his way through all of Gotham. Batman just continues on his merry way, randomly beating the hell out of Gotham’s kooky criminals. they're all just waiting on the rooftops for Batman to come along and beat the crap out of them. now i’m sure Commissioner has a whole array of blunt objects at his disposal. why would he need a Baseball bat to smash the Bat-signal? and WHY would he use someone’s souvenir baseball bat that was autographed by the WHOLE team?? - - SO ridiculous!!! Flashpoint Batman finally shows up, Penguin is out of his cage, Alfred’s beat up, and Bruce lets Flashpoint Batman sneak up behind him. THE END. if Tom King’s sole purpose is to turn Batman into an idiotic and unlikable jerk then he’s really doing a FANTASTIC job of it! more

Darkseid24 - Dec 5, 2018I tried to see it more positive, but you are kind of right. I am however glad Penguin wasn’t that badly portrayed in the end. Still 45 issues left..
myconius - Dec 5, 2018i have to admit the scenes with Alfred and Penguin chatting it up were pretty amusing. - - though all the scenes with Batman (as well as Gordon's) were just bad. - - yeah. i hear Tom King is staying on the title until issue #105. - - - - issue #106 can't get here SOON enough!!
Darkseid24 - Dec 5, 2018Yes same here, but it’s still another 2 years. Could be worse though. King is mediocre for me, so I hope it doesn’t get really bad. What I keep asking myself, why does Alfred/ Bruce just deal with Oswald being married to a penguin, I mean who wouldn’t burst out laughing, when he is talking about love, whe he refers to a penguin.
Talon1load - Dec 5, 2018Why the hell would he be married to a damn bird? This was beyond stupid. What kept Penguin from pulling up his blind fold? Why did Alfred have to open the cage with the really big hole in it to hand feed Penguin? This was painfully stupid.
Darkseid24 - Dec 5, 2018It was but not as stupid as he would have been married to a real woman out of nowhere, especially because he was never able to have a functional one. As for the rest, I don’t know.
myconius - Dec 5, 2018after Thomas Wayne beat up Alfred and Penguin made his escape, did Penguin then see Alfred's identity? - - - did Penguin just wander his way out of the Bat-cave and into Wayne Manner?
Darkseid24 - Dec 5, 2018I hope Penguin is alright though. If it’s really Thomas Wayne I guess King will break Bruce even more by letting him fight his dad.
myconius - Dec 6, 2018the issue will end with Thomas giving Bruce a spanking. - - "now you take your medicine, young man!"
ohhaimark - Dec 8, 2018Once again we disagree… Once again I fully respect your opinion however. As I said in my review, "My opinion is a strange and irrational beast."
myconius - Dec 8, 2018that’s funny. well, it’s like the old saying goes, taste is subjective. i myself just can’t get past the way Batman is overreacting, letting Bane get him so completely unhinged. that and i still can’t buy into the childish temper tantrum he was throwing last issue, punching Gordon in the face. do you know what he was acting like? Bruce was acting the way Damian acted in his very first introduction, when all he knew was his spoiled upbringing from the League of Assassins. - different strokes, eh?
Darkseid24 - Dec 8, 2018Totally agree. I can’t see Bruce being so disrespectful to Gordon like that & neither can I see Gordon giving up on Bruce like that. Kings Version of Batman makes me roll my eyes.
Æther - Dec 12, 2018Such strange Gordon dialogue, Head trama? Alzheimer's? He was taking atleast 5-7 second pauses between those dialogue boxes.
Æther - Dec 12, 2018Yeah just who's M.O. is it to be beating up bad guys on a rooftop anyways. It's not like Batman coulda just abducted Zeus in an alley and then brought him to the roof for a little interrogation.... no friggen way he doesnt do that shit. Maxie was definitely standing on the roof to begin with because... yeah...
Æther - Dec 12, 2018Yeah why didnt Penguin just act like the Penguin... it's like he was honestly worried or something, it's like what for bro? You got no enemies and Batman is in such a good mood. Makes no sense for the Penguin to be acting like such a cowardly shit, hes normally such a brave little chod. He coulda ripped that damn blindfold off and just become the next Batman for fucksake, he was in the damn batcave everyone hello! Not to mention all my Penguin sexual fantasies have been utterly DESTROYED!
Æther - Dec 12, 2018Plus yeah, it makes no sense that the feds didnt jump out of the bushes and take down the KGBeast right when they saw them fighting. These are just comic Superheros and Villians... I know they were holding those surveillance cameras also but COME ON!! GODDAMN IT KING!!!
Æther - Dec 12, 2018Batman is so not himself, it's like dont you know Batman cant not be himself, then hes like not Batman. See what I mean? Deep shit.
Æther - Dec 12, 2018And yeah that one guy loved his autographed bat more than all of life, he was going to cherish it forever... as his retirement policy. Now he will live a homeless bum life thanks to Gordon, and heartless Gordon will one day flick a nickel in his eye as he begs on a corner, so very very sad... The End.
Darkseid24 - Dec 12, 2018Aether I think I was really right, when I said, that you should learn how to deal with criticism lol
myconius - Dec 12, 2018yeah Æther, people will not always like what you like. it's just part of life. besides, it's only comic books. it's not really that serious, man. it's only comic books.
ohhaimark - Dec 12, 2018I agree, I don’t mind when people disagree, often times they have better reasoning than me. Something everyone has to accept in this world is that other people will have differing opinions.
myconius - Dec 12, 2018it's ok to not see eye to eye at times. - - ohhaimark and i have opinions that align most of the time, and other times we're completely opposite. i still think he's a cool person, and enjoy chatting with him. - - comics are fun escapism. they let us live out fantasies that we cannot in real life. sure it's easy to get upset when someone ranks on something you enjoy. but don't take it personally. it's not worth getting upset over. know what i mean? ;)
Æther - Dec 12, 2018Yeah for sure, I agree... to be honest it would be boring if we all had the same opinion. I know I may get a little too riled up at times, what can I say. I do feel for you guys though, we are all just Batman fans who just want a story we can enjoy.
myconius - Dec 13, 2018no worries. i’m just as guilty for getting riled up plenty of times. but it’s just because we’re passionate about what we enjoy. though sometimes i know i need to be more diplomatic. that’s a foible i need to work on. but i definitely don’t wish any ill. i mean ‘comics’ right? i guess it’s easy to let ourselves get carried away. especially when we all have such varying tastes. but it’s good that you have something you really love and enjoy. that’s really rare these days.
myconius - Dec 13, 2018personally i know i’m a Batman addict that can’t step away from the character, no matter how many times i’ve tried. but it’s cool. i may not care for many of the current stories i buy, but i have plenty on back issues that i love. and even though i don’t keep the physical copies of the story i didn’t enjoy, my Batman OCD always makes me rebuy the digital versions just to have. - - very cool Bolland profile pic btw. i really loved that run! :)
Æther - Dec 17, 2018Couldn't be more right, atleast Batman himself can build us a bridge. It sucks Tom King doesnt write a Batman on your vibe, cause you clearly love the character. Your criticism helps though, it has me questioning the reasons I like what I like. While hinting at an even larger story at play I might not even be aware of.
Æther - Dec 17, 2018In my mind Tom King thinks a big theme with Batman is traumatic recovery. With Bruce's parents dying at a young age, the robin drama, countless mental and physical abuses suffered, how he specializes specifically with mental health needs villians... This whole PTSD thing might be Kings shtick, and yeah that will get old, I'd like to see him be a little more adventurous in the future myself. But for now, I did and do think his style makes for a great fit for Batman.
Æther - Dec 17, 2018Maybe it is all a little too redundant, insensitive, ignorant, or weak In comparison to what has been. I haven't read everything myself tbh... Hell, maybe I'll come back here a few years from now and laugh at myself. Arguing, has only enriched my experience thus far though, and deepened my understanding. We may not always see eye to eye, but atleast we have reason for it. Glad we dont have any hard feelings, passion was definitely summoning the savage out of us haha.
Æther - Dec 17, 2018Hah and yeah, it was an amazing run, and Bolland is awesome... which reminds me I've been sleeping on Judge Dredge for years and years now :P
myconius - Dec 17, 2018that’s very true! one of the great things about the character of Batman is he has such a vast library of stories to delve into. lately i’ve been re-reading a lot of my back issues. some of the stories from the late 80’s thru 90’s. i went in really wanting to enjoy King’s series. i was so done with Snyder’s run and ready for something new. one thing i will give King over Snyder is King doesn’t bombard his readers with pages and pages of exposition. Snyder must get paid per word balloon. xD
myconius - Dec 17, 2018i myself am just more used to seeing Batman with a very strong resolve. a man with a plan. some of the stories (like the Denny O’Neil/Neal Adams) may get hokey, but Batman was always quick to figure it out. Morrison's Batman is one of my favorites. he was even tempered, and has a sharp wit. i can see Tom King really enjoys Year One and is always putting nods to that story, this type of storytelling would be great if he were doing more of a LotDK run with stories set early in Batman’s career.
myconius - Dec 17, 2018but if you enjoy something, cherish it. you might very well still enjoy it as much even years from now. some of my favorite comics from when i was a teen, i still love. some i see their flaws but can still appreciate them for what they are. ABSOLUTELY! i really felt bad after how ugly i let myself become. and once again, i do apologize.
myconius - Dec 17, 2018i really love the few stories that Brian Bolland illustrated for Judge Dredd. mostly the Dark Judges stories. i used to have a bunch of the complete casefiles, but had to sell them. i did keep my Dredd by Bolland oversized HC. that book is a beauty if you can find it. :)
