This issue was easily one of my favorites of any Aquaman comic book run. The focus of life, death and rebirth. The magic of life that clings to the King, the true warrior spirit we see within Arthur, as he endures unbelievable pain and torment is truly poetic. DeConnick's dialog moves easily between snarky inter-character quips and haunting narration. In the end, when the other shoe drops and we get the first hints to how Arthur Curry lost his memory in the first place, the cliffhanger is real, even if you've read previous Aquaman issues. I'm looking forward to how the team stitches this all up. Does Arthur return to his Queen? To the Justice League? This issue feels less like the start of a new arc and more like a natural continuation of the previous one. Just keep reading, there's so much more for DeConnick and team to explore. I have not kept it a secret how bad I think this title has gotten. It took DC Comics literally decades to get Aquaman to a place that mainstream audiences didn't view him as a joke. Then once they finally did, they turned him into a joke with this new direction. Read Full Review

Mother Shark, man. Mother Shark! Such an intriguing new character with a creepy interest in Arthur Curry Aquaman. Viktor Bogdanovic fits nicely into the current art paradigm for Aquaman, and his depiction of the giant Mother Shark is the fantastic icing on the Aquaman cake. The ending cliffhanger is quite the twist that doesn't yet make sense with recent continuity.

THE GOOD: -I mean, at least the art was good. THE BAD: -What was this issue? Like, seriously. What was it? To me, it was a shark talking to Aquaman for a whole issue, just recapping his story so far. There are so many things wrong with that, as an idea, let alone the fact that it was allowed on paper. -Caille has become a character I'm just really bored with. I also think her story moved way too fast. -Something tells me the end is just shock value, but I guess I'll hold out hope. I'm sure as hell not putting it under the good column though.

Yeah, definitely. I still enjoy his art nonetheless. I think I liked a bit more than I would have considering the quality of this issue, however.
