This series is at its best when it focuses on the Super-family and Lois, and I kid of wish there was more time for that as opposed to focusing so heavily on a pair of villains who it's very possible might never appear again. Read Full Review

John Romita Jr. is on art and his stuff is pretty rough for me. He has a lot to do here with shifting scenes of huge actions amid quiet interrogation scenes. I don't care too much for the stuff. But the layouts are actually quite nice. Read Full Review

Action Comics #1027 sees Bendis tie up a lot of loose ends, putting a boo on the S.T.A.R. Labs stuff and the Invisible Mafia. He does it without breaking any of his toys on the way out, giving future creators the chance to use them. The issue itself is just a good Superman story, with every member of the cast getting a chance to do something cool. Romita's art is uneven but more good than bad. John Romita Jr delivers some interesting and creative art in this issue, but there are some graphical flaws that were too big to ignore. There are some perspective issues that are obvious whenever Superman and his family are standing near each other. The other issues are characters in the same scene that look so much like each other that you cannot distinguish which character you're looking at. Read Full Review

It's hard for a Bendis Superman comic to be much more than mediocre, and Action Comics #1027 is no different. Bendis can never seem to get out of his own way. As soon as he introduces something interesting, he botches it with the execution. Next month sees the end of his tenure on Superman. At the very least we will all know where things stand. Maybe the big reveal will be Lois was from a parallel Earth and every time they had sex it was a Superman robot standing in for Big Blue, as corny as that sounds, it's really preferable to either of the other two outcomes. The Invisible Mafia story ends with a thud... the thud of me pounding my head on my desk!  Not much gets resolved, and it looks awful not doing it!    If you have been waiting for a good time to jump back on Action Comics, March seems like it will be it. Read Full Review

I love the interactions between Kara and Brainiac5 in this issue. I hope after Future State event, will be there more with these two. Like Kara go to the future with the Legion of Superheroes,and reunites with he.

That's true, but with how little or nothing there has been between these two in the last 10 years, it's at least a good thing or a hint as to what could be after Future State between Kara and Querl.

Oh, this is just so poorly written. I don't understand. But I also don't care. The resolution of the Daily Planet stuff has already been known for literal months. And I still hate the Multiverse concept from Lois Lane, which I guess must be resolved now even though we get barely any answers? Whose terrible idea was that? Bendis or Rucka? This is just the worst and there's another whole issue after this! Ugh.

I can hope they kill this Lois off because the way Bendis writes her she is insufferable. While they are at it they can kill off Jon as well, I'd be fine with that.

How many innocent trees died to print this...mishmosh? As usual Bendis doesn't seem to know what to write until he writes it. How else can one explain this poorly made book? One of DC's longest-running series and it's been reduced to this? As over the last few issues the subplot about Lois resolves nothing and leaves us dreadfully uninterested. And the end of the issue...Are they making another attempt to take us back to the cheesy unrealistic Jimmy stories of the '60s and '70s? If this crap continues after Bendis goes, it's goodbye again to Superman for me. Finally, the ones I'm as glad to see go as much as Bendis are his crappy characters Red Cloud and the rest of the invisible mafia. Let neither him or them them ever return and you'll ha ve satisfied Superman fans worldwide. more

I have been less consistently sour on Bendis's Superman than most here - I'll never understand spending all that money on something you know you'll hate - but wow this is absolutely incoherent. The only good thing in the issue was just a restatement of the conclusion to Fraction & Lieber's Jimmy Olsen, and if there was ever an issue that did not benefit from reminding you of better Superman stories, this is it. I never expected Superman to be a title that played to Bendis's strengths as a writer, but this is such a mess that it's hard to remember that it was done by a writer who HAS strengths — or an artist, for that matter. What happened to JRJR's once-considerable storytelling skills? There's one panel that's impossible to see as any thing other than Supergirl holding Superman's shed skin — which might be creepy, but it's hard not to wish I was reading that story instead, it couldn't be worse than this shambling catastrophe. more

Indistinguishable members of the "House of Kent" - and why were they even needed? Horrible overuse of Phantom Zone in Bendis' entire run. Every threat can just be relegated there, it seems. Incoherent storyline regarding Lois and big dud of an ending to Leone/Red Cloud (one of the worst villains ever) storyline. Just awful.

*Spoilers* Ok, well with this issue we conclude the House of Kent storyline and not a moment too soon. This issue was just bad all the way around with a story the wraps up everything in the dumbest and least interesting way possible. Yet, before we get into that we should really mention how badly this issue is butchered by the art work. The cover is is just bad with it's disproportionate structure. Superman's hands are drawn the same size as his head for crying out loud. It continues with little more than sketches that are passed off finished product. On page four we have Romita drawing Lois blowing air out while being interviewed by the FBI but it ends up looking like she has a shard of glass stuck in her lower lip. Another example o f simply not caring art work comes on page eleven we have Superman, Conner, and Jon all having the exact same head, I honestly think he drew one face and the moved it over on to the different bodies. As long as we are talking about laughably bad faces check out page 13 where the reader is treated to a weird three panel drawing of oddly shaped Lois Lane faces with the FBI...Why we needed this is beyond me. Then check out Conner's head on page 14, just God aweful. Now for the story or lack thereof, all of the characters that Bendis introduced get written off with any luck never to be mentioned again. Bendis promised to leave more "Toys in the Toybox" than he broke. He not only didn't do this he created toys no one would ever want to play with ever again. He ends the story with the Daily Planet being bought by Jimmy Olsen...Might as well have it bought by Krypto. As I said this issue is a mess. more

I agree with the review, but Jimmy owning the Daily Planet was actually established in Fraction's highly-entertaining Jimmy Olsen maxi-series that concluded a few months ago.

Awful story and terrible art make for a really bad book that DC should be embarrassed to put out. I hope that Bendis takes Romita Jr. with him when he's done.
