The action and plot advancement are plainly told, but there's too little meat on the bones of a miniseries focused on tertiary Amazing Spider-Man characters to make even that mundane delivery worth much attention for all but die-hard fans. Read Full Review
What a pleasant ending to the biggest surprise of the year. Was it rushed? Yes. Was it still really good? Yes.
I waffle between 7 and 7.5 but the art is great so 7.5.
All in all, this is a bit of a mixed bag. There was a lot of great stuff going on in this book, good fights and I like Misery and how Liz is explored overall. It also leaves a bunch of linger points that could be reasonable built upon. Madness is a character that has potential. At least some.
That being said, lots of silly stuff also occurred. Stanley's mom is clearly killed in an image (basically cut in two), but apparently makes a full recovery by the end. Spiderman's scene is also bizarre. Like he couldnt take them before but once Spearhead dies and then he is good to beat everyone? Really?
The story wraps up messy, with virtually every character getting a big "to be continued" sign.
In this final issue, and throughout the miniseries, there was never anything critically wrong with the storytelling. But to me, there wasn't anything exceptional about the words or art, either.
Combine that with a wide-ranging plot and a too-big cast and you've got a recipe for five issues that never really got me engaged. It's a lot of little sips out of a lot of different cups, and that never satisfied my thirst for a deep chugalug.
