Metropolis the city that never sleeps! The home of two of the best investigative journalists in the fictional world. But The Dark Knight doesn't need the one with a cape. Lois Lane, in the last 5 years I have to say has been written better then most DC characters, her as editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet, as Superwoman and as the best reporter in DC comics history. Our story takes an infected Batman, with broken ribs and a broken face to ask her for help. Their relationship, especially with Bruce on the clock; infected with this virus that removes all fear. We do get a couple of pages with The Lion in this issue, but he's a lighter focus as it's more about the pairing of Batman and Lois. And honestly, I could go for a regular run of miniseries focusing on the pair because it could make for some great creative rotation of styles to showcase the two together. Their time together here works well as she's coming across as the one thinking more rationally and clearly than he is, and he is trying to accept that and process it because of how the virus is impacting him. It's a solid bit of clue-following going on here, with persuasion being the approach to it when it comes to getting information. And it leans on both of them in their different approaches to get it. It's very solid and engaging, and again features some gorgeous artwork from Janin that just hits beautifully to me with how everyone from main to background character look. Read Full Review
"The Courage That Kills" was off to a strong start, but quickly fell apart in Detective Comics #1102 by confirming the villain too early. In #1103, it's now spinning its wheels with nonsensical plotting. Read Full Review
Just really digging this story. Yes it’s a slow burn but it works for this kind of story.
My guess is Batman is close to losing his fear and we are going to see some crazy shit very soon. Probably next issue.
Another great chapter deepens the no-fear virus mystery as Bruce heads to Metropolis seeking help from…Lois Lane! Their investigation leads them to STAR Labs while Scarecrow encounters The Lion. Their investigation leads artwork is absolute perfection from Janin, helping shore up some of the story’s weaker moments.
Could this story arc be more exciting? Yes. But you just don‘t give one of the best drawn series currently being published a 6 because the story is not exactly what you want.
