Izzy and her friends have finally discovered their true natures and see their future ahead of them as an exploration of the past. Hex Wives built up to this exciting burst of vengeance and it is so worth it. I have been waiting for this issue since the series began and it delivers on all fronts. Writer Ben Blacker paced this arc well. I was practically pumping my fists out of sheer delight for the justifiable carnage unleashed by this coven. Its a satisfying wrap-up to the initial six issues. At the outset of the series back in October, Blacker and Andolfo said they wanted to keep doing the series indefinitely. There are so many places the story could go from here, and there are quite a few mysteries revealed in the sixth issue for Blacker and Andolfo to uncover. The ensemble of witches has been introduced. Ben Blacker is quite the writing talent. He has created some real characters here that truly resonate. He has found the perfect partner in his scripts with Andolfo who Illustrates them perfectly. They have both done a great job on this one. Read Full Review

The ending arrives as expected and if anything, Ben Blacker pulls his punches. A bunch of powerful women band together to take over the world, but there is a man to show them the way. Maybe he means this as another trope to upend, but it sure does not look likely. Read Full Review

That being said, I can't get past the dialogue and unless this switches gears, I'm going to stop reading. The series has made it its mission to empower women and show the damage of patriarchy, but with its treatment of Becky, the series is failing one if its characters and those who are reading this comic that identify with Becky. Meh. I was expecting a lot more? And I'm not sure whether this series is on a break or if this is the finale. But it was certainly an underwhelming ending regardless. The way the witches get revenge is like any other story like this. While it should feel cathartic to the readers since we've been on this journey with these characters, I just found it really, really boring. It's nothing new and without the characters really resonating with me, I could not care less when what's-her-name burns her husband to a crisp or when the-other-one saves her husband from the same fate.

This all just feels... really easy? Not super artfully written. Just "oh okay we're witches now. We all are totally fine with that and our powers and have no further questions. Also we all had stupid outfits in our houses, of course. It totally makes sense that I would have spider earrings and a cape here in my idyllic 1950s home." Also like why am I rooting for these women? They apparently murdered a town full of people. That's a bad look, ladies. And I don't know who most of the guys are. Like, I genuinely didn't know which one was married to which woman, other than Mainuel Guyson and Fakery McBurns.
