Andy Khoury wasn't heading Vertigo, nor is he heading Black Label. That was and is Mark Doyle, Khouri worked under him. It wasn't Doyle'a fault either, it was DC's new president Pamela Lifford who arrived at the office just in time for Damned's BatPenis scandal and shook everything up in a panic. I do agree with you on everything else, though. Great series, bit of a rushed ending.

Aug 01, 2019The creative team is is to commended. I didn't see this issue's twists coming at all. But man, I can't stop thinking about it. This is a book that is truly unmissable. Read Full Review

Jul 31, 2019I'm still not sure I can recommend this comic to anyone. American Carnage #9 cements the series' status as brutal, bloody, and brilliant, but it's an endeavor to take on. It's not something you can pick up off the shelve and read casually. Much like the creative team, you have to have the intent to stare at the darkest parts of this hell time and be ready when it stares back. Read Full Review

Nov 21, 2020Overall, American Carnage #9 is a shocking final issue that gives us a resolution. It's an ending that won't sit right with those looking for happy endings. The story by Bryan Edward Hill is exceptional. The art by the creative team is stunning. Altogether, a story that shows just how divided America really is. Read Full Review

Aug 01, 2019A powerful series reflecting our times, American Carnage comes to an end that feels premature but still carries weight. The open-endedness of the story may feel unsatisfactory to some, but in these times most things leave a lot to think about. I recommend not to miss this series. Grab any issues you can or wait for a trade to be released. Read Full Review

Aug 12, 2019I really didn't like this issue. It's a somewhat fitting end to this disappointing series. There are a lot of great ideas here. I was interested in some of the characters dynamics and relationships. But not enough was done with any of it. This conclusion feels rushed and abrupt. It's not satisfying in any way. It's not a happy ending but it doesn't have the punch of a tragic or even bitter sweet ending. It just ends without making any kind of real impact. Read Full Review

This series clearly wasn't intended to be wrapped up in nine issues, and it shows. Bryan Hill has done the best that he could to produce a solid conclusion, but there are weaknesses that result from events outside of his control. Nonetheless, the issue is good. The biggest tragedy in this issue is that we have been robbed of an excellent series due to the failure and collapse of the Vertigo imprint under Andy Khouri. He made a complete mess and has now been given the chance to screw up DC Black Label too (perhaps he has compromising photos of Dan DiDio and Jim Lee).
