A story about the dead and the afterlife shouldn't come with easy answers, and Doctor Mirage certainly does not. What it does have are flawed and interesting characters as well as a fairly dense mystery to unravel. Read Full Review

Doctor Mirage #2 read completely differently from the first issue, but that's not a bad thing. The clever artwork and storytelling style allowed us to learn even more about the situation Mirage is in. Though it has perhaps left us with even more questions to be answered. Read Full Review

The opening installment of Dr. Mirage was a strong one for me in how it picked up where the previous series did, for all intents and purposes, and getting to see what Shan is struggling with worked well. That drive has made things hard for her as one would expect and that's shown throughout this issue as she goes further than she should. Visaggio has the relationship between her and Hwen down beautifully and I'd love to see more of it in the smaller moments as we get here. Robles again delivers a great looking book and the project as a whole continues to have me curious as to where this'll end up when all is said and done. Read Full Review

Theres an attractive gravity underlying the central mystery of the series that echoes into the second issue. The flashback to earlier events robs the narrative of some of the supernatural exploration that made the first issue so intriguing. But it DOES serve to ground the story on both sides of the veil between life, death, the past, and the present. Far from compromising the appeal of Shan, her decision to do what she has to do to get into the Temple of Isis makes her that much more interesting as the series reaches its midpoint next month. The combination of desperation and impatience resulted in things turning out bad for Dr. Mirage, but it is the "why" and the "how" that makes the story compelling. No gratuitous violence and sex, just a person trying not to be alone, anymore.
