X-Men / Fantastic Four #2

Whether you agree with the choices the Sue and Reed are making, or the conspiring that Xavier and Erik are up to, this story is breaking important ground. The relevancy that some feel about Franklin's situation, having also had parents who attempt to control or micromanage their lives, is significant, and you can just feel that Chip is trying to hit those emotional beats that resonate with readers on a deeper level. This issue and so far this series is tightly written and drawn. Not a single panel goes to waste allowing readers something to reflect on when it comes to characters for every inch fo the book. That keeps you emotionally invested in the story every step of the way. Read Full Review

It's a good issue, but I feel it lacked in story. The first issue had more story in it, and I felt something for the characters, but this issue felt flat to me. Readers, this issue just... is. Its not bad by any stretch. However, there is nothing jarring or overly shocking that leaves this reader on the edge for next month. There isnt anything that packs a huge gut punch or simply has a ton of strength behind it. Dont get me wrong; the overall narrative is interesting and sound writing but as a whole, its just an average issue thats setting up a showdown between the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Doom with Franklin and Valeria in the middle. X-Men/Fantastic Four #2 raises the stakes from last issue. Zdarksy does a great job with each team, presenting them both as equally proficient without playing favorites. He sets up a good hook with the last page of the issue. What exactly is Doom up to? Readers will definitely come back to find out. Terry Dodson's art is an improvement over the last issue. X-Men/Fantastic Four #2 delivers on everything fans of both franchises could hope for when these two teams meet up. Chip Zdarsky does a fantastic job using the history between both teams to create a compelling story around Franklin Richards' power problems and the X-Men's current direction. So, all told, X-Men/Fantastic Four #2 is 1/3rd of a good comic. The emotions and sense emanating from the Doom Island characters is right in Chip Zdarsky’s wheelhouse with an added dash of his tonally sound Marvel 2-In-One run. But the “grown ups” of the series still can’t get out of their own way, further escalating the conflict needlessly. Prelude: I loved the first issue of X-Men/Fantastic Four so I can't wait to read this issue. The Good: I love Krakoa being called out. Cyclops treats the Fantastic Four as the threat they are and it's great. Doom is great here. Love the Reed infographic. The Dodson's art is good too. The Bad: Nothing. Conclusion: Wow, this was amazing. Loved every single stage of it.

THE GOOD: -Really, really good issue. -I love the art. Not sure what I was on last time when I said I didn't like it. -This issue just had outstanding character interactions across the board. -That opening scene was perfect. -Doom is really well written here. -I love the moral dilemmas and how both sides are given reasonable arguments. -Can't wait for more of this. THE BAD: -Something about the buildup to the X-Men discovering the Fantastic Four at the meeting felt off.

Doom gloms onto Franklin and his mutant pals, creating a triangular conflict. The FF infiltrate Krakoa. It all boils toward a confrontation (That will feature Doom-Sentinels!). It has beautiful art and butter-smooth storytelling flow from scene-to-scene. This is an excellent use of the DoX sandbox, and Chip Zdarsky once again shows that he really should be the lead author for the FF right now.

Hmm, I didn't like this issue as much as the first. Mostly because of what the F4 do in response, it feels very unlike themselves despite the reasoning behind it. I thought they'd do something more logic based due to the scientific nature of the group. I do like the plot with Doom and the kids and Kitty, that seems very fun and different/interesting. The fight that happens just made my eyes glaze over a little bit. Still interested because of what the ending will be with Franklin

I think my expectations for this series were a bit too high. I’m not the biggest fan of the art but I do love the coloring. All 4 of the members of the FF felt very out of character this issue and this issue also had some very slow pacing. Doctor Doom is written tremendously by Zdarsky and is easily the best part of the issue. Solid comic but nothing incredible

When you write Doom you got to have a thoughtful twist and Chip nails it. Doom is evil to the core and his manipulation of Kitty and Franklin is great. Doom Sentinels, might seem like a bit much but it works well with all the history this story has tied in. Dodson again doesnt bother me! Good read a little predictable thus far but fun.
