Comicsverse - Peyton Hinckle
Oct 17, 2018X-MEN BLACK: MYSTIQUE #1 doesn't try to be more than it is. McGuire delves into Mystique's character, giving readers some new titles and slivers of her identity, but it doesn't become over-ambitious, which for a one-shot is good. Sill, I think this issue could've given readers a little more information about Mystique's current standing when it comes to the X-Men. The bigger world of superheroes and mutants is largely left out. Read Full Review

The Super Powered Fancast - Deron Generally
Oct 17, 2018One of the best things that this issue has going for it is the fact that Mystique is keenly self-aware. As complicated as her life and loyalties have been over the years, Raven knows exactly who she is in this issue and that focus makes the story fun and interesting to read. Read Full Review

Black Nerd Problems - Jon-Carlos Evans
Oct 21, 2018Seanan McGuire handles the story deftly, crafting a personal and internal story that is not so focused on plot, but rather exploring the everyday outlook of Mystique as she navigates a world where to be outside the mayonnaise human norm is to be hated and feared. Read Full Review

Newsarama - David Pepose
Oct 22, 2018Given that this is only her third credit in comics, it’s particularly heartening to see a new talent like Seanan McGuire make such a confident leap from novels to sequential art. While X-Men Black: Mystique won’t redefine the character or change much to her status quo, this is an excellent done-in-one character piece that is a strong showcase for an up-and-coming creative team. Like Mystique herself, it’s clear that this team is willing to put in the work to succeed, and if this issue is any indication, those efforts are definitely going to pay off. Read Full Review

Multiversity Comics - Chris Egan
Oct 22, 2018A solid Mystique story with all the violence and shape-shifting fans of the character could hope for. An intriguing addition to this min-series that makes the finale that much more enticing. Read Full Review

Sequential Planet - Marcus Orchard
Oct 17, 2018Like it's predecessors, X-Men: Black: Mystique #1 isn't a must-read, but it is an entertaining one. It doesn't offer anything new, but has strong characterization and is an opportunity for new fans to get to know Mystique. It's better than the Magneto story but doesn't impress the way that Mojo's story did. Read Full Review

Oct 17, 2018The Apocalypse backstory slows the pace down a bit in this installment, but the chapter ends on a note that suggests things are going to pick up in a big way next week. Read Full Review

First thing - I give up on Apocalypse story. So my review is for Raven only. A Rebeca Romijin Stamos Mystic. Dangerous, without mercy. Not the dumb Jenifer Laurence version fortunately. Ok it's dark and sometime I was a little lost. But's Its raven plan (To lost those who would have wanted to follow her !) Cover - I change the Variant I reserved for the Regular. More enjoyable. And giving a little of the raven inside. 1.5/2 Writing - Ok I don't like "noir" stories. But this was well made ! 2.5/3 Arts - Nor good or great, that do the job & give a nice dangerous Mystique. 2/3 Feeling - Ok I not like it but it's a good Mystique story for those who want to know this one more. 1/2
