Percy has struggled in the past to land a satisfying conclusion to some of his story arcs in previous issues of Wolverine and X-Force, but that is not the case here. This issue was very engaging, feeling very down-to-earth with solid stakes and goals. The action was also handled well, leading up to a climax that -- while not wrapping the whole plot up neatly -- does give a promise that it will and sets up a more cunning Beast down the road.
Though this is Wolverine's book, it is really X-Force that is the shining star of the issue. Sage leads the charge, making the bold decision to go against the Quiet Council to help Logan attempt to take Beast down. The field team of Omega Red, Deadpool, Domino and Laura handle themselves very well and
show that they can be a force to be reckoned with and a black ops team capable of fulfilling their objectives. I hope this type of characterization is brought over to their own book as this issue of Wolverine gives them a more serious menace and edge that isn't shown as often in their own ongoing series.
Speaking of menaces, Beast finally shows himself as a competent villain and capable of planning things out several steps ahead. The way he manages to escape X-Force and Wolverine actually seems plausible without turning the heroes incompetent for the sake of the plot, which I appreciated. And the way he is written here, as a tricky planner, makes me interested to see when and how he will pop up again in the future.
This was a satisfying climax to a story arc that has been a rollercoaster of highs and lows, good and bad issues, but lands on a good final note -- at least for now. more

A writer that loves and really understands the character he is writing and beautiful artwork that matches the tone of the plot perfectly makes this issue of wolverine fantastic. I hope Benjamin Percy continues to write my favorite character for as long as possible

It's a tense, bustling climax. The cast is big and fun, the action is fast and furious, and the art is pretty damn gorgeous. Benjamin Percy loads in some of his finest tough-guy dialogue in the early scenes.
Unfortunately, it unravels a bit at the end. The resolution resolves very little, and it arrives too suddenly.
The final scenes are why I think it's not quite great. Everything that comes before tells me it's very good, though.

Basically, the end of Krakoa.

We’ve reached the conclusion of the “Weapons of X†storyline that has cemented Beast as a full-fledged supervillain. WOLVERINE #35 by Benjamin Percy pits Wolverine against an army of Beast & Wolverine clones as he tries to stop Beast Prime from continuing to enact atrocities unchecked. As has most of this story arc, the issue is an extension of the X-FORCE series, with the full X-Force roster playing a role in the mission to put an end to Beast’s maniacal rule.
WOLVERINE #35 (and the broader conversation around Beast’s worldview throughout the Krakoan age) was an interesting read after seeing Oppenheimer this past weekend. The debate on how far a nation should go to defend itself will likely never be settled, though we can all
likely agree that the choices Beast has made to keep Krakoa “safe†have been questionable at best and irredeemable at worst.
Percy does a great job keeping Beast from becoming a complete supervillain caricature and that may be best displayed in the opening scene where Beast tells a “joke†to his clones that acts as a euphemism for his plan to use said clones as a meat shield. Percy also writes Deadpool, another character who easily becomes a caricature when overused, well here by leveraging his sense of humor in just the right amount. There’s one page where a reader’s natural tendencies on how to read a comic are subverted when Deadpool reveals it was all meant to be read in reverse. Juan José Ryp’s art & Cory Petit’s lettering help this “gotcha†moment land brilliantly.
This visual tone of the book continues to walk a line between action, science-fiction, and horror. Ryp’s design and Frank D’Armata’s colors don’t hold back during action sequences and they create a visualy fascinating environment for Beast’s headquarters. Every element is finely detailed with an element of organic horror that felt straight out of HBO’s The Last of Us. Elemental effects like the rain drops as the two sides meet for a parlay are done with masterful precision.
The final scene was a tad of a let down knowing that it had to happen to set the stage for Wolverine’s crossover event with Ghost Rider, though I’m hopeful Percy and team will get the chance to revisit the Wolverine vs. Beast conflict in the not too distant future.

Not quite the conclusion I was hoping for, but it was still good overall. I liked Jeff recognizing and shouting out how he knew that the Beast sent out to deal with him and Wolverine wasn't the real one (AKA "Beast Prime). I've really liked how Percy has been handling Beast across this series and in his X-Force run, so hopefully what comes next with him continues to be at that level.

What a disappointing and unsatisfying end to the Beast arc.
