Wolverine #33

Wolverine #33 continues this books run of excellence. Percy, Ryp, DArmata, and Petit are putting out the best X-Men story around right now, and more people need to notice that. Yang, Nguyen, and Ramos turn in an enjoyable back-up story as well. All in all, this is an excellent Wolverine comic. Read Full Review

‘Wolverine' #33 brings the title character closer to a final showdown with Beast who continues to move forward with his dark, destabilizing, villainous moves all in the name of ‘protecting' Krakoa. When this series is firing on all cylinders it's a whole different experience and this is one of those story arcs where everything is coming together as it should. Read Full Review

While it doesn't grind to halt, Wolverine #33 suffers from the overdrawn plotting of this massive Beast Agenda story arc quite a bit. While the book still wears some of Percy's finer hallmarks with the character, you can feel just how tired this book has become. Read Full Review

Another awesome read. A bit of a spoiler here, but I loved the Beasts plotting to overthrow "Beast Prime," just for them to get taken out by the Wolverine clones. As for the backup story, it was fine, but I didn't really need it. Ultimately harmless, but the main story is still great.

This was a pretty fun issue with a lot of unexpected twists. Beast continues to be horrible, hypocritical and cruel and these points are hammered home with the way he treats his clones and the places/things he's now targeting. The data page with the Beast clones all talking to each other got a little chuckle out of me too, just because it's funny to see an egomaniac basically talking to himself in a mirror, conspiring and patting himself on the back all at the same time. The promised Wolverine/Maverick team-up looks like it will be great, and the two characters seem like they're finally acting like the way they used to with each other. I didn't really think about how much Logan needs an ally right now since he ditched X-Force, but Maverick backing him up just reminds me how much Logan needs people, despite his beliefs that he's better off alone. The only thing I didn't like with this books was the way Jeff's daughter was written. She comes off as an adult the way she talks to her father and it's so weird. The back-up story with Sister Dagger was great too, but felt a little rushed and short. There was enough there for a whole issue by itself, and it's a shame that it was just slapped in as an afterthought. more

Although the big-picture plot is moving forward at a rather slow pace, all of the individual scenes here are thoroughly satisfying. The wonderfully detailed art is accompanied by terse, tough dialogue. This is cinematic and thrilling in the best way. The B strip is pretty solid. It's an inconsequential vignette, but Gene Luen Yang still has a good handle on Sister Dagger's endearing brattiness. Logan, like the reader, can't help but like her.
