Wolverine #10

Wolverine #10 is yet another Wolverine masterpiece from Percy and Kubert. Its an action-packed, fast-paced issue that sets out the relationship between Wolverine and Maverick perfectly and then changes it forever. Percy really captures the essence of Wolverine in every chapter, and this one is no exception. Kubert and Martins art is amazing throughout; the two men are putting down some best of their career on this one. This book wraps up a short story while planting the seeds of the future, and it does adroitly. Read Full Review

Wolverine #10 continues to be one of the best examinations of the impact of the Krakoan era on the 616 universe and its occupants that never forgets it's a Wolverine comic offering as much action as it does introspection on the impact of the mutant status quo on the world, agencies in that world and individuals touched by it. In the ever-expanding list of the X book line, Wolverine continues to be a favorite of this reviewer. A roster page of two does me just fine with a well-written story and great art, and that's exactly what we get here. A page-turner for sure, issue 10 left me wanting more. Benjamin Percy, Adam Kubert, and Frank Martin balance black ops action and the complicated relationship dynamic between Logan and Maverick in Wolverine #10. It also features breathtaking layouts from Kubert and smart color choices from Martin and has nods to the 1990s era of X-comics while adding a little substance to those books' style. Wolverine #10 serves as the conclusion to an action-packed spy storyline, reuniting the clawed mutant with one of his longtime allies. Next issue will see Wolverine battle vampires and the machinations of Omega Red and I can't wait to see how Percy shifts from the spy genre to the horror genre (and how artist Scot Eaton handles the clawed Canadian). This was absolutely fantastic! I loved everything about it. Benjamin Percy is doing such a fantastic job writing wolverine. I was really into the layout of the art too I thought it was really cool. I felt the story was incredibly intriguing and I can't wait to see what happens next

Refusing the aid of Krakoa, Maverick convinces Logan to join him and his team of Mercenaries on a raid of the Merchants warehouse. Discovering an enormous cache of items related to the superhuman community, the two burn it to the ground. Afterwards, Maverick accompanies Logan to Krakoa but ultimately declines the opportunity to be mad e whole by the Five. Later, Maverick meets with the head CIA operative from the Legacy House ordeal and the two seemingly come to some sort of business relationship. As Maverick sat to meet with the CIA operative she very suspiciously blew on her coffee in his general direction. I’m convinced that steam had to contain some sort of mind control toxin! Looks like Maverick and his team are going to be coming for Krakoa! I’ve really been loving all of the cover art for this current arc. For that matter the interior is just as good. The creative team has done a great job at keeping the character and his arcs interesting and captivating. I’ve been very thankful that Wolverine has not been over exposed as he has so often in the past. A good issue overall, in my opinion. I liked the dialogue between Wolverine and Maverick here and I appreciated the setup for more in that regard. Kubert's art was super solid as well. Good stuff all around.

Some really great art and well written moments. The story is choppy as hell though. Like for me the swift moment where Wolverine and Maverick were burning down the auction house being followed up by being in Krokoa was weird and required re adjustments and pauses in the read. I feel like this with most issues and its a bit of a setback on the title.

Maverick and Wolverine fight their way out of that auction. Then Mav shows off his Mercenaries, Logan shows off Krakoa, they give each other a mutual "thanks but no thanks," and go their separate ways. The solid bones of a simple, shooty, tough-guy comic are there, sure. But some of the terse prose is clunky and I just can't get past how much effort Adam Kubert didn't put into the visuals.
