War Of The Realms: New Agents of Atlas #1

Having read a bunch of War of the Realms tie-ins, I gotta say this might be my favorite. The action is great, the art (by Gang Hyuk Lim, Federico Blee, and Clayton Cowles) is beautiful, and theres some really fantastic character work that helps you identify with the characters, even if you (like myself) dont share their common Asian heritage. One scene at the beginning does a great job of exploring Asian diaspora and how different each culture may be talking about the same thing but perceive it differently based on their ethnicity. Lim deserves a special shoutout for his work here; hes been on my list of names to watch since I first encountered him on Infinity Countdown: Nighthawk last year, so Im glad to see more of him. While I can't speak for how well New Agents of Atlas ties in with the grander myth arc, I can safely it works beautifully as both a stand-alone story and an introduction to the pan-Asian and Asian American heroes of the Marvel Universe. Greg Pak kicks off the New Agents of Atlas with a bang and while it was action packed, I wish there was a little more time to introduce the characters in a more impactful way. Im still not sure how necessary this story will be to the overall War of the Realms Event, but the main draw here is the cool team members"I just want need more about them. The large scale of the War of the Realms events gives opportunity for a lot of tie-ins, and so far, New Agents of Atlas has been one of the best. While there are way too many characters to keep track off, the team seems like it is going to come together fluidly and naturally and not forced. Since most of the characters in this comic are obscure, Greg Pak can take a lot more risks, and I'm excited to see what they are.

Oh, thank goodness. It had been several months since a Greg Pak comic assured me Amadeus Cho is a headstrong know-it-all who needs to learn how to play with others. I was in danger of forgetting.

The art is the only saving grace of this comic. I might have to go see a doctor because the dialogue might've given me cancer.
