Comic Watch - John Jack
Dec 26, 2017As far as crossovers go this one is awesome, and not too extensive or intimidating. I like it when crossovers are somewhat contained and don't force readers to buy a bunch of books they wouldn't otherwise lest they are crucial tie-ins (I'm looking at you, Deadpool Secret Empire tie-in issues!) Jan 01, 2018Venom #159 doesn't bring anything new to the table. Its more of a filler issue to me, like its setting up for the next part of the story. It was nice to see Anti-Venom back in action. I am disappointed that Maniac didn't do much either, all he did was bark orders. For crying out loud, Lee Price was the guy who broke the Venom Symbiotes will and forced it into submission. At least have him throw down with Spidey or Black Cat. I did love the art style for the issue, the sharp edges in use fit a Venom comic. Read Full Review

Dec 26, 2017Overall, Venom #159 does bring a fair amount of fun to the otherwise grindy story of Venom Inc. Theres a lot of punching, Spider-Man isnt insufferable here, and Sandoval and Curiel keep things aesthetically appealing. I can recommend it to the fans of this story and its characters or anyone just looking for a fairly fun and mindless read. Its worth checking out. Read Full Review

I'm only reading this Venom issue for the crossover. Only 10 of the 20 pages contain Eddie and/or the Venom symbiote. Doesn't seem much of a "Venom" issue within its own title. Plenty of action but with the stories split between the two plots it seems to be a bit stagnant. No complaints on the art. But I really hope this arch has weight to it when its all said and done.

More of a filler issue, without much happening besides Brock thinking about his life in the park and one fight scene. The writing's decent, but there's just nothing you couldn't afford to miss.

Spidey and Flash lose a first-round fight to Lee Price's goon squad, Felicia escapes Venomization by smooching Flash, and Venom and Eddie reunite. It's pretty by-the-numbers storytelling. Mike Costa slides a few football references into the dialog; with Flash Thompson front and center that's not so much "clever" as it is "lazy." Gerardo Sandoval's art is pretty polished, so you could probably drop an extra point on my rating if you like his brand of glowery half-manga tough guys. I don't, particularly, so this remains a thoroughly average affair for me.
