As well as the main feature, there's also a lead-in to "Avengers: Children's Crusade" which explains Magneto's presence in that series. Well-drawn, well-written and relevant to "Uncanny X-Men" as much as the series it's bridging into, this is exactly the sort of backup we could do with more of. Uncanny X-men has some definite rough spots as it ventures forth from Second Coming, but Fraction gives his readers plenty to be excited about. As this arc progresses, I hope to see certain characters and relationships given more room to breathe. What's the point of having all these X-Books if the characters are going to hang around in one place anyway? Read Full Review

Hopefully the artwork will get better next issue, because it's just such a shame to have a great story ruined by lackluster, subpar artwork. There's great potential here, and I can't wait to see just where Fraction might be going with this new storyline. Read Full Review

Other than the team saving a young woman dealing with her new-found mutation there's little action here, but that doesn't mean it's not worth a read. On their own neither story is strong enough, but as two similar personal tales told together we're given an issue that stands out for its emotion rather than bloodshed. Definitely worth a look. Uncanny #526 does a good job of showing the multiple story lines and where they are going leaving much to get excited about while certain issues with art bring it down a peg. Read Full Review

Both stories in this issue feature some strong characterization, which nearly earned this one a Buy It verdict. However, the briefness of the backup (it was done long before I was ready for it to be) and the extreme weakness of the art in the main story pull this one down into the Check It range. It is definitely a step in the right direction for Uncanny XMen, which had severely lost its way prior to Second Coming, but it still has a way to go before I'll be totally jazzed with it.
