Jun 26, 2024Sometimes a clear split within an issue can be for the best, allowing two plotlines to feel distinct as they build to the larger hold. In Ultimate Black Panther #5, that idea is executed thanks to the use of a central MacGuffin, the green orb. Bryan Hill's story has intriguing moments, but the lack of clarity about the green orb diminishes the stakes, and the plodding pace promises this title will continue to tread water for months to come. Jul 06, 2024Final Thoughts Well that was a VERY QUICK READ. I think Im done with this book. Just when I thought that the book was finally turning a corner and ratcheting up the tension and story, we get an issue about a mysterious plant that is the opposite of vibranium? OK then! Look, Im sure some people are liking this story, but for an all-new universe that is supposed to have done things differently, this book feels like damn near every Black Panther book that Ive read since 2016 (with a few exceptions). I do hope the book will pick up and prove me wrong, but it seems stuck in first gear and there is no mechanic in sight. Save your money and get something else. Read Full Review

Plot T'challa and Shuri analyze the mysterious sphere and discover that by charging it with electricity like Storm's, it releases an energy wave that accelerates biological development, that is, it works with organic elements. Its 'ok'. The other orb is interesting but the lack of details and how it was handled leaves is lacking. I need more to be interested. Also how it was stolen just feels sort of forced. If they could teleport into their base at anytime with mind-controlled soldiers, why didnt they do that more and why couldnt they just have got the orb themselves? I am sure there are reasons but it feels a it messy. All in all the story is must chugging forward without any real accelerator. I dont feel like draw that I do with Ultimate X-men or Ultimate Spider-man. It is the weakest of the bunch (barring Ultimate's which really dropped the ball but might get better)

Not quite as intriguing as the rest of the series thus far, but still enough to keep me reading. Nieto does a nice job filling in for Caselli here. There isn't a whole lot for me to report, if I'm being honest. This, unfortunately, felt more like a filler issue for the most part. A good one, though.

This has become common for Bryan Hill. His Blade story started out good and went downhill fast just as this is doing. He's going on issue 6 with so sign in sight of an actual story. I'm going to drop it if there's no movement going on in issue 6. Please tell me how the green orb and Vibranium are a duality. It makes no sense.
