Thor #35

Grnbekk once again shows that shes one of the better writers to work with Thor and the Asgardians for Marvel. An impressively entertaining story comes to a close that seems to match the overall feel and execution of ancient Norse tales. Thor continues to be an integral part of the magical end of the Marvel Universe in another deeply satisfying adventure. Loki makes an impressive supporting appearance. Grnbekk does such a good job with Hela that the goddess of the underworld comes across as someone who would be fun in her own title.  Read Full Review

Thor #35 is the finale to this Thor run and it tries its best to wrap up everything it can into as neat of a bow as possible. As expected, not everything is handled well, some character resolutions are rushed, some story elements are overlooked if not outright abandoned, like Thanos and the Black Stone. Surprisingly, the endings to the stories with Thor and his father Odin are a little unexpectedly wholesome. The creative team do their best to give this story arc as clean a conclusion as possible, but sadly they fail to stick the landing. Read Full Review

The plot dominoes fall into place to wrap up the story in an impressively logical way. The art does a decent job of conveying emotion as well as action. There are some hauntingly sharp lines in the prose. Two things stand out as particularly impressive: the way the time travel shenanigans and the mythological content fit together so neatly, and the heartwarming farewell to Odin. The story pivots neatly to meditate on the importance of family and give real depth to both father and son. The sudden author shift leaves us inevitably pondering might-have-beens. The general shape of this finale was probably set down by Donny Cates. I bet if he had stayed on, Thanos's role would have been more impressive. On the other hand, I don't think Cat es could have woven Norse mythology into the timey-wimey parts of the story as well as Grønbekk has. more

An okay conclusion to a run that became messy due to things outside of control. I still feel like Torunn did the best she could here, especially considering the circumstances.

I would rate this lower, but because Donny Cates had personal issues that made him leave the Thor story, I will be lenient. It's not bad, but it's a damn shame that Donny Cates Hulk and Thor runs are hte ugly duckling or hte middle child between Al Ewing's Immortal Hulk/Thor, and Jason Aaron's Thor run. I wish we could have sen Donny Cates full Thor and hulk vision. Oh well.

Man, this just didn't do it for me. It wasn't bad, don't get me wrong, but it's just really unfortunate how this series ended. Grønbekk's run on this title started nicely and then declined, but started to go back up in quality for me until this issue. This felt a little disconnected from the previous few issues. It comes across like it's supposed to be the conclusion of this big story, but nothing here made it actually feel that way. I don't put too much blame on Grønbekk, however. She was given a tough task of having to suddenly write and finish this series after Donny Cates's personal issues (which I don't fault him for whatsoever), and she did what she could. Hopefully Immortal Thor brings the character back to having a great quality s eries. Despite me not caring too much for the return of a more classic costume, I'm still giving it a shot. I've liked what I've read from Al Ewing so far and I've heard nothing but great things about his Immortal Hulk. more

I wouldn't say that I hated it. It just felt very bland even though it shouldn't have. It had a lot of good ideas that just weren't really executed well, which is how this series has been for the last few issues.
