    But Why Tho? - CJ

The Rise of Ultraman#1 is an amazing update to the Ultraman mythos, courtesy of a creative team that has nothing but love for the character. Higgins, Groom, and Manna make an amazing team and I look forward to seeing more of this series, including Hayata's first transformation into Ultraman. As an Ultraman fan, I highly recommend this to fans both old and new. Read Full Review

I was hesitant in reading this work since a big publisher like Marvel Comics taking on yet another property is an easy cash-grab if done wrong, but that couldn't be further from the truth. The creative team has done the homework, clearly spent a lot of time and energy getting this world right, and have started things off strong. The Rise of Ultraman is an exciting new sci-fi action story well worth rising up and reading. Read Full Review

ULTRAMAN: RISE OF ULTRAMAN #1 is a clever three-pronged introduction into the Ultraman universe that fans of the original material can appreciate and newcomers to the franchise can also enjoy. While issue one may not have the kind of action some may be expecting, it still has thrills and mystery and combines that with great character work, superb art, and a clever format. Read Full Review

    ComicBook.com - Spencer Perry

This new series reboots the property for new audiences and old fans alike with a direct approach to the concept in a fun inaugural issue. The only real downside for the series' kickoff is that it has to spend more time establishing its world than really playing in it, though it features quality backup tales to supplement that shortcoming. Which, regrettably, makes The Rise of Ultraman #1 uneven. Though gorgeous throughout and chocked full of charm and weird bits of texture, the story isn't that accessible for those not up to speed on the character. Read Full Review

This is an intriguing, newbie-friendly introduction to the world of Ultraman (where I certainly qualify as a newb). Ambitious young recruits are swept into the kaiju-fighting world of the United Science Patrol. This multi-strip issue strikes a great balance, explaining a little and hinting at much more in a way that hooked me hard. Some outstanding character art from Francesco Manna helped a great deal. The greatest potential weakness is flat characterization; hopefully, that will be remedied as the story goes on.

I was a little disappointed. I liked the lead story, but it was too short considering the price. The rest of the issue was useless filler.

I've never been an Ultraman fan. I don't know the character at all. 8 don't know if this comic is accurate to the established canon, or if it's something new, but I found myself waiting for a hook that never really came. The story is fine. That's it. I'm not sure I'll continue reading this. The most intrigue actually came from the back up. I don't know, this just didn't click with me.
